A good basic gun.
A little heavy for CCW to my taste.
Great truck/car gun.

I inherited a Rossi 38 special revolver with a 2" barrell, " M 58 38 special" stamped on the barrell, my uncle bought it in the early 80's and had it in storage froml that time until the present, I don't know much more and can't seem to find much info either , any thoughts?

I think I have the same model. I love it. I have had it for 20 years or so and it has been flawless. I carry it occasionally when the attire calls for it. Mine is not rated for +P ammunition and I would not recommend shooting +Ps in it. Did it come with a manual?

I would have a good gunsmith take a look at it just to make sure it is up to being shot.
The model does exist, but gun price reference catalogs do not seem to have it except one possible entry in the Gun Trader's Guide. The entry does not give a model number, but everything seems to fit otherwise. Imported from 1965-1991.
Gun Broker.com just had a model 58 barrel for sale, but that auction closed.
Regular standard pressure rounds should be used in that gun.
For defense purposes the Federal Nyclad 125gr. LSWCHP would be a good bet. Not only does it make a good practice round, but also a decent defensive round as well.
The nylon jacket keeps lead exposure down and the soft lead bullet will expand dynamically with plenty of penetration.
110gr. JHPs standard pressure rounds can also be used for defense.
Your gun would not be +P qualified.
Any standard pressure round can be shot through it.
Buffalo Bore, www.buffalobore.com , has three standard pressure .38 Special rounds, but I would be just a bit hesitant to recommend them for a that particular model. Some of the later Rossis like the 68 and 88 that came along afterwords are not +P rated.
P+ ratings did not come along for Rossi until the 351/352 series came along.

You're welcome. That's what the shooting culture is about in part.
