Rossi 351-3 back at $199.95 at Academy

The little 351 with 3" barrel, 5 shot .38 sp Rossi is back on sale for $199.95 which was the Black Friday price. I've been real pleased with the first one and think I will pick up another one now and just leave it in the safe unfired. These are about the handiest 3 inch revolvers I've ever seen or held.

After Blk Friday they went to 249 then in early January 229, back to 249 ad here we are at 199.99 again.

I'm hearing the firing pin horror stories, but if it happens I'll have a gunsmith put in one that'll last.

I haven't had an issue with the firing pin, although I only have 350 rounds through it so far, definitely I never dry fire it without snap caps. A lot of folks on here bought them, and I haven't seen any complaints since Thanksgiving about the firing pins. I know their were some complaints about other Rossi models early last year, and I am being specially careful to keep the firing pin channel clean and free of any grime that would cause bad alignment when firing.
Where have you been hearing of the firing pin issue?

I search online and admit I have to take a lot w/grain of salt. Unhappy/unsatisfied people tend to be more vocal in their complaints than the satisfied folks that, for the most part, don't post and go on about their rat killin'.

Then a young man that works for Academy tells me about these revolvers being the only ones he has ever seen that jams and has had to send a few back for repair.

I asked him to explain this wheelgun jamming phenomenon & am waiting for a reply.

I also e-mailed Academy about the Rossi being rated for +P and surprise, surprise, no response.
The sales clerks say nay & the braztech folks in Miami say yea.

Re: Rossi 351-3 back at $199.95 at Academy

I have noticed with some reloads I bought, if the primers are the least bit high, or not seated deep enough, the primer will hang up on the lower left quadrant of the blast shield, and the primer will scratch. I have not had this experience with any of the factory loads. I have ascertained where the binding has occured on blast shield and I'm going to polish that portion of the blast shield with my dremmel tool to see if I can smooth it up. The same loads do not hang up on my 66 Smith, but the area on it's blast shield doesn't have quite as sharp of an edge in the same spot. I'm hopeful to do the polishing without having to remove the cylinder, and will try it Thursday. I could just use factory loads and forget it, but I have over 1000 rounds of the reloads, and about 10% of the reloads seem to have high primers. I can examine the reloads and pick out the high primers and shoot them in the Smith, but feel this will be a 20 minute chore.

According to the young man when the Rossi wheelguns came back from repair they said the cylinder & brl was replaced from being out of time.

Also they were hanging in the same spot of rotation.

They left the store in working order. I'm guessing that they shot them dry, didn't lube them any or clean them, then w/tight B/C gap the cylinder starts to drag and they force the issue by applying too much Johnny Atlas on the trigger.

The hand might be a tad shy on length and this is compounded by the residue from firing causing the cylinder to drag.

Finally, the gunk & short hand, continually being forced under undue pressure onto the rachet, prevents the cylinder from rotating into the stop, fires spitting lead.

The owner laments his tale of woe and how the "junky Rossi" almost killed him, quit on him and now he's at the mercy of the bums at the warranty center.

Anywho, I'll bet a buck against a hole in a doughnut that most of these returns are owner enhanced problems.

It's similar to buying a shotgun from a package store that's dry as a bone.

People take the time to whine online, yet they won't take the time to properly lube the firearm or clean it on a regular basis.

Re: Rossi 351-3 back at $199.95 at Academy

I've heard much more good than bad regarding Rossi .38's. I'm a firm believer that over 95% of all gun function problems are due to the One-Dee-Ten-Tee factor. Seems too many folks out there are unwilling to learn what makes a gun tick and how to properly care for one. They expect it to work perfectly all on it's own with no good-sense intervention on their part, and when a failure they caused does occur, they blame the wrong tool. The tool behind the tool is most often to blame. It's the 1D10T factor.

Curious about Academy sending guns back for repair as they have a STRICT "NO RETURN" policy. You even have to sign a form indicating you are aware you cannot bring the gun back. Probably some employee tools farting around with the inventory and screwing things up. The 1D10T factor at work.
