I reloaded a couple of boxes of target grade .357 and scrounged some brass at the range. That's plenty for when I want to make it run like a flamethrower and turn heads at the range.
I never thought it would be necessary.
I got a TON of my once-fired .40's, .38's, and .380's.
Working on the 9mm. Got a few hundred so far. Plenty of ammo to fire, and pick-up the brass.
I scrounge a little bit when we go to the range, pick-up a few cases here and there.
BUT, I was thinking about loading up some REAL .357 Mags for a change, instead of just shooting .38's out of it.
I got about 200 rounds of .357, but it's all personal defense ammo, and I really HATE shooting that stuff at paper targets.
I guess, I'm gonna have to bite the bullet(excuse the pun), and buy some brass.
I really hate to do it, but what the hell.

"Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and given him triumphal processions. Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the new wonderful good society which shall now be Rome's, interpreted to mean more money, more ease, more security, and more living fatly at the expense of the industrious." -- Marcus Tullius Cicero
357 brass is tough scrounging, or at least one of the tougher calibers to scrounge. I know the commercial reloader I use says he's having trouble getting used brass.

There's no shame in reloading NEW brass for a good reason. I used to reload 357 for deer hunting, and always used new brass so I'd know everything was as "right" as I could get it. Kelly.
P.S. My deer loads would shoot 3 1/2" groups at 100 yds, with a 2X scoped 6" S&W 586. I'm still proud as hell!

But, to answer your question, yes. I just bought 100 pieces of 308 brass. I bought 45 Colt and 454 brass when I started on those too. I had minimal factory ammo. In my case, the brass was more easliy (and cost effective) to obtain than cheaper ammo.
Never bought any brass. It's all over the ground at the range. It got a little thin around the first of the year, but it seems more and more shooters are just letting it lie.

Yup, bought a lot of brass over the years - and still have some of it.
I've bought once-fired GI .223 (still have 2,500 unused), new .308, new 280 Rem, new .30-30, new .357, once-fired and new .30 M1 Carbine, once-fired GI .38 (some of it I have loaded more than a dozen time with plinking loads), once-fired new .45 Colt, new .221 Fireball. I fireform 7mm TCU from .223. Most of my 9mm is once-fired GI.
My last purchase was 2,500 once-fired .40S&W for $115. The same company dropped the price to $85, so I'm going to buy another 2,500.
Brassmanbrass.com has excellent prices (if they have what you want in stock) and in many cases (no pun intended!) the shipping is included in the price.
