Here is what this bastard child looked like when I got it a few days ago:
And here it is after about 6 hours of work:
Took it to the range today. Shot two 92% scores on the state qualification course back to back... kept throwing a couple rounds, but that was me. (Got in a hurry) Not bad coming out of the chute considering I haven't shot a PT 92 variant in years. Functioned flawlessly with the factory mag, had a few slow slide returns with the 20 rounder. Think I'll replace the recoil spring with a Wolff unit; no telling how many rounds this thing has seen. I like the history behind it... Israeli police.
I'm pretty happy with my trade... no regrets.
Funny story that will have you guys laughing at me... rear sight was loose at the range. Figured I'd take it home and put some red Loc-tite on it and keep an eye on it. Didn't know there was a firing pin block underneath the sight... you guess it... tapped it off, and ZING! the spring and pin went into orbit. Spring landed on the counter right in front of me, but the pin was gone. Spent about a half hour looking everywhere in the kitchen for the dang thing, and found it. Put the pin into the slide, put the spring into the cup in the pin, and started to compress it to drift the sight back over... BOING!!! Back into orbit. Spent the next hour and a half looking for the dang thing... thanks to the wife for finding it. A word to the wise...

Nice work on the refinish.I always hated polishing blems out of stainless, but its better then keeping up with chrome.I grew up working in a plating shop.
OUT FREAKING STANDING!! Great Job!![]()

a.k.a. 2LOGICL. While I do not enjoy the misery of others, I do find comfort in it.
WOW!!!! That shows one huge transformation in appearance. Amazing what a little elbow grease can accomplish. Looks fantastic, my new stainless pistols don't shine like that.
Glad to also hear your pleased with the preformance of the 917, they are tough to beat. What grips are those that you installed, they look pretty comfortable, kind of remind me of the Pachmayr grips I have on my S&W 645.
Job well done!!!
If you have a difficult job to do....Give it to a lazy man......He will find the easy way to do it.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.
Jonrjen: They're Uncle Mikes that I picked up from Treg. I like the checkered texturing a bit more than I thought I'd like the pebbled Hogues. A bit thick, but they give a very tacky, positive hold on the pistol. What I'd love to see on these pistols are checkered front and back straps! Maybe some day I'll have the money to kick around for something like that.
Aaah, the "springy" spring. I have never removed that sight, but I learned long ago to wrap all "spring launchers" in a dish towel prior to dis-assembly.

Congratulations on your new firearm.
Thanks. As an aside, most of the work I did refinishing the pistol was because there was a coating or plating on the frame. Whatever it is, its apparently what gives the frame that bluish or yellowish tint, depending on how the light hits it.
