    My new PT909 and PT809

Just picked up my new PT909 today that I got thanks to jonrjen. Thought I would include it alongside my favorite, the PT809. They make an excellent pair and I can't wait until I get the PT911 later in the week.

Wow, Sweet looking pair. Well, what is your over all impressions of going "Heavy Metal" from a almost duplicate poly Taurus. Looks like the grips may feel very much alike, heck fire the guns almost look to be a pair of brothers separated at birth.

I'll stay tuned in to read your review of the 909 after its first trip to the range. Did you order a PT911 in stainless? I was doing a little internet shopping on the PT911,909,957,917 and the offerings are gettin pretty slim once again and prices are running much higher.

I really like the new gun. The grip is about 1/4" thicker on the 909 due to the removable grip panels, but it feels very nice in the hand. The slide dimensions are almost identical and I believe they will fit in the same holsters. I am in the process of making a pair of leather holsters for the 809 and 809C, so we'll know when I get them finished. Surprisingly, the 909 does not feel much different in weight compared to the 809. The trigger on the 909 is great right out of the box; very smooth and not very heavy. The 809 trigger was heavier when I first got it but has broken in very well. I hope to get it to the range this week and try it out.
I jumped on the 911 even before I got your response on your other post. I got nervous that I would miss out when someone said the 909's were already gone on Gunsamerica, so I placed my order. Not sure if I want to get a 917 at this point or not. I am pretty intrigued as the 917 seems to be a hybrid of the 92's. I've always liked the unique design of the 92, but didn't like that you couldn't change the front sight. I see on the 917 that the front sight is dovetailed. I really appreciate you sharing your finding of these really nice guns with me. I'm sure they will be keepers.

I had my 917 out yesterday just to take a look at it again, kind of glad I did. I was wondering where my Altamont Silver/Black grips had ended up, they were on the 917. Size wise it is a match to the 909 just in the PT92 format. The 917 also has the finger grooves molded into the front strap of the grip, which is kind of nice.

My wife refers to my 900 series pistols as my "Barbie Guns" because they get pulled out and played with then redressed by swapping the grips for a different look. I think they are more "GI Joe".

Well depending on the grips and finish, I mean the 945 with gold accents and pearl grips maybe a little more "GI Joe in drag" or as it has been dubbed the "Dillinger" gun.

I forgot that the 917 had finger grooves. I did some searching today, but only saw blued ones available. I am really digging the stainless barbecue gun look. I also like the Barbie analogy.

From what I have seen there are some early edition 917 pistols that don't have the finger grooves in the frame. However that was one feature that I looked for from the beginning, the grooves seem to mold your fingers right into the perfect grip. Of course alot of the perfect fit could all be a mental thing since not all hands are the same size. But, it works for me.

Well I can tell you for sure that there is one less blued PT-917 in the market place as of earlier today. I can also tell you where it is being shipped, but you can most likely figure that out.

I think I will do some swapping of parts between the stainless and blue to do mirror image 917 pistols. I have a duo-tone 99 that I really like the looks of, so now I can transfer the look to the 917. Paid a little more than I would have liked for a blued model, but not many sources available for NIB PT-917.

Is the 917's slide wider than the 909/911? From the pics I've seen, it's hard to tell. The finger grooves would be cool; that is very much like the 809 grip, and it is one of the things that immediately endeared the 809 to me. I really like the 800 Series, and am getting there with the 900's, and I haven't even shot my 909 yet.

I'm not sure, give me a bit and I will go pull out one of each, pull the slides and compare them. I did find it interesting that the magazines between the 909 and 917 are not interchangable.
