In regards to the grips, I prefer the molded-in finger grooves, or 'scallops', if you will, on the front strap. Overall, aside from the front sight dove tail, barrel length and afore mentioned grips, I do not believe there is any mechanical difference between the 92 and 917. I have both a 92 & 917 and have swapped the entire slide assemblies, and they each cycled snap caps just fine. I haven't fired them 'swapped' but I see no reason why they wouldn't. Maybe next range trip, but I haven't been able to go lately.

I just got back in from doing a little trip down to the ranch for some pistol time. Took the PT917, PT940, PT911, Sig 2022 .40s&w and Springfield Arms Ultra V-10. Out of these the best shooting today was the PT917, there is just something about this pistol that is dead on accurate in my grasp....single handed or double. Now I gotta addmit, that my son's new Springfield $1100 stainless 1911 was very close to the 917.
But anyway you look at it, a couple hours of shooting guns with your son is a blast to the senses.

Very nice pistol---will be glad when I get mine back from Taurus so I can really get to play with it. First 30rds shot fine right to point of aim.Want to put some Rosewood grips on it, mine is the duo-tone finish.

    ENJOY
