I plan getting one also, a 809 compact. One of the things I like about the 800 series is that after you decock I blieve that you are in the firing mode, no need to remember to flick off the manual safety, if you want to carry DA, manual safety disengaged, which is how I like to carry. With my 24/7 Pro DS model, after I decock the manual safety is engaged and needs to be disengaged.

You are correct. If the safety is on slide the safety/decock lever down one "click" to remove the safety, then one more "click" to decock it.

I have had My 809 compact for about 1 week. Took it to the range and ran 150 rounds through it. 100 Blazer brass 115gr & 50 124gr hard cast lead low power loads. The gun ran good with no malfunctions. The gun was shooting about 1-2 inches left, I noticed the front sight was shift to the right a bit. After centering the front sight it shot right on. The single action trigger is decent with a bit of creep. The double action is way to heavy, feels like it will snap the trigger bar if you shoot a lot of double action. I also noticed I can put 14 rounds into the 13 round magazine, 14+1 in a nice package not bad. The slide is fairly thin .90 near the top and about 1 inch where it bumps out a bit. I really like how it takes down like a Glock but you do not have to pull the trigger. And the rails the slide rides on are small so that should help it be more reliable. I like that the compact does not have ambi controls except the magazine release, which on my gun is very stiff I am going to oil it good and hopefully that will help. I have several other guns so I am going to keep shooting it without cleaning till I get a malfunction.

Dude. I tried starting a thread about the 800 series back on Nov. 21. I have a 809 and a 840. The 809 has been 100% reliable and digested and fired everything I have put through it. No FTF's,no FTE's. I use it as my daily concealed carry choice. I trust my very life to it. Buy it. You won't be disappointed. I have the 809C compact on my radar for purchasing next year. I put a couple of magazine through it every month.

As far as the G2 series goes. I was all in love with the G2 until I discovered that in order to put it in single action mode you have to squeeze and hold the trigger while racking the slide. That was a deal breaker for me. I mean,really,who does that?? I want familiararity with my guns. No other handgun I can think of requires that.

Keep your finger off of the trigger, which means that the trigger is in its most
forward position. In this position, you can activate the Manual Safety by pushing

the lever up placing it in the “ON” position. The trigger will be locked and remain

in its forward position. To fire the pistol, push lever down and then pull trigger.

You can also activate the firing pin decocker by moving the lever downward,

the striker will be decocked and then the lever will return to the firing position.

The pistol will then be ready to fire in double action mode.

Have a SS 845. Production date was June 2009 and bought it August 2010. Initially had a lot of Failure to Feed, Failure to Eject and Failure to Ignite. Probably around 80% of the total ammo I fired. Bought an extra Taurus mag but it was defective. Could not push the slide stop to lock the slide on the last round. Could not put 12 rounds on the mags as well. I figured based on the research I did on other forums that the Magazine spring was a bit stiff. And if that is true it would be true to all spring components of the 845. Hence all the failures. Continued to shoot if and fired some "hot loads". I noticed the failures gradually decreased until the claw of my extractor chipped of at around 300 - 400 round mark. Had it fixed by the Importer. Fired another 300 rounds more or less and was uneventful. On a side note I noticed that recoil was reduced when I fired the hot loads thru the 845. I live in the Philippines and the life time warranty of Taurus does not reach all the way here which was a major disappointment. The importer only gave it a 1 year warranty. So if you ask me if its a keeper? Will answer that after 500 more rounds thru her.

Finally took my 809 to the range. Shot 50 cheap monarch fmj. Had 1FTFeed and 1 stovepipe on the first mag, all smooth after that.
30 in the chest, 20 in the head.

I have had the 845 since May of 09, so- about 2.5 years. It is no doubt my favorite Taurus. The best shooting and operation wise- its just a very good gun for around $400. I have actually lost count on the number of rounds through it, but its still less than 1,000. Never a problem.

I like the 800 so much..............I have a PT-111 Pro (9mm) with approx 600 rounds through it and a TCP 738 (380) with about 70 round through it, and that has been repaired that I will gladly trade for a 809 Compact.
