The 92 has fixed sights, while the 99 has adjustable sights.

Here's a poll we ran a while back. You'll find some good opinions.

I have owned both, and yes they rock!.

I went with the fixed sights.

Unless its a target handgun, usually I say fixed sights are fine simply for the durability. I've never seen adjustable sights that were nearly as solid as their fixed counterparts.

Also, for a defensive handgun, windage is FAR more important than elevation, and windage isn't that hard to adjust with fixed sights (can't easily do it with hand tools, but it isn't impossible). This is simply because humans are much taller than they are wide :P .

They have aftermarket adjustable sights you can get for the pt92, they DON'T have aftermarket fixed sights for the PT99.

I am blind in my right eye,and shoot a pistol left eyed, and right handed,so adjustable sights work better for me,windage mainly.
The groove in the top strap very seldom shoot to point of aim for me.
Sure do like the looks of the 92 type guns.

I have the PT-99 and I shoot 115 grain light reloads at the range. Dialing in the adjustable sights for this load allows me to shoot tight groups at 25 yards. I definitely prefer the adjustable sights.

While i find that my Model 99 sighted for 124 grain projectiles is still accurate at out to 25 yards with everything from 92 grain to 147 grain projectiles in both Plus p and standard velocity 9MM , and I will likely not be using it for defense at those or farther ranges.
I still think that for the few additional bucks that the 99 /101 cost over the 92/100 that i would opt for the adjsutable sight versions.
Now i agree that in the case say of the 709/740 and those funky little flimsy rear sight that i would desire a fixed sight version the 99 is a more ruggedly built sight and I have had no problems wiht it in my 24 year old 99.
I wouldn't pass up a good deal on a 92 because it had fixed sights though, just if you got a choice i go with the 99.
