    PT 92 Max Effective Range?..

Any ideas? I was thinking of adding an adjustable sight to take it out to 100yds or so.. Worth it?

Whats the farthest the COMMON shooter could hit, say a Clay pigeon with a PT92? How far hit a IDPA target?

    Thanks!!

dont know much about IDPA.. they normally shoot within 25yards i think dont they? i mean it's suppose to be defensive pistol shooting.

not sure what the max effective range is.. for just about any 9mm pistol i'd say 50 yards, I think thats what they regulate the sights at the factory.. well at least beretta, with 25yards being the practical limit.

of course the bullet will be lethal well beyond that range.

True, Sorry If I typed it in correctly.. I meant to say, how far could someone hit a target as the same shape as the IDPA ones (or a human in the chest)..

Re: PT 92 Max Effective Range?..

i'd say depends on the shooter.

me i could probably do it at 50 yards if i slow fired it.

i almost never shoot beyond 25 though.
if you ask me could i hit a man size target in the chest in a SD situation with a pistol..

im not sure i could guarantee at any range but i think i could reliably (say 75+%) do it at say 10 yards.. probably not more.

i dunno interesting question don't think i really have an answer though.

Re: PT 92 Max Effective Range?..

It does depend on the shooter and the gun.
Mas Ayoob and others have articles on long range gunning. That is being able to hit out to about 100 yards.

A lot of data showed that a person with a .38 snub revolver could hit a 50 and 100 yard gong with just a bit of practice. And it does at that. The gongs were big enough to be a human chest or torso.

There are two ways to do this. One was to sight with the gun held higher than the target and setting the sights on target and then lifting the whole gun so the sights covered the target. Then the trigger is pulled.

The other one is to raise the front sight. First you line up and get a good sight picture on the far away target and have it centered in the sights. Then lift the front sight so it blots out the target and pull the trigger.

I've used the second type when hand gunning with a .22lrf revolvers and pistols. That's from about 50-100 yards. This took practice and being able to see the bullet impact is of major importance.

Then with your particular round and bullet weight you keep shooting carefully until you hit the target. This works for center fire handguns as well. Keep raising the sight a bit until the bullet strike hits the target. Then shoot the same way for each shot.
The wind has to be taken into account as well.

If the bullet strike is a bit to the right then put the barrel and sight a bit to the left. If the bullet hits to the left then sight a bit to the right.

This is just a general accounting of how to do it.

Re: PT 92 Max Effective Range?..

The Sig P-210 was practiced with at 75 meters by some Swiss SF Units during the Cold War. The 9x19 round should be powerful enough to cause casualties at ranges greater than 100 meters. Hitting at those ranges is more a matter of the shooter's abilities, than the mechanical aspects of the gun.

My PT92 can score hits on man-size targets, on COM, at 75 yards, under timed conditions. It likes 124 gr. ammo, a little hotter than the normal WWB style loads for best accuracy.
