Question on safety of carrying with one in chamber

I just bought a 709 for CCW. Most small guns are DAO but this gun is SA/DA which is basically a single action. The only time it is DA is in the case of a misfire, you get second shot capability. This gun has a trigger similar to a glock with the center safety piece that protrudes out from the center of the trigger.
What is the safe way to carry this gun with one chambered? Should it be carried with the safety on? Guy at the gun shop said either way is fine but I question that. He didn't seem to think its a single action but it is. I'm new to CCW and would appreciate your thoughts.

My carry gun is the PT145 SA/DA, and I carry it with one chambered and the safety on. I do it for the same reason that I wouldn't carry my single action .45 Colt cocked. I think most here will agree, but there are other opinions on this, as there was a discussion about it sometime back.

Re: Question on safety of carrying with one in chamber

When I carry my 709 I always carry it with a round in the chamber and the safety on. I know it has the trigger safety similar to the one on the glocks but if you hang the trigger on anything while putting it in the holster there is a chance of it going off. I carry everything with the safety on and you just need to practice till it is second nature on sweeping the safety off during the draw. Hope this helps you some.

I carry my 709 with one in the chamber and safety on. The reason I won't buy a Glock is no thumb safety.

Ditto to the other posts, PT140 with manual safety on.

Since it doesn't have a decock, USE the safety. It is cocked. Thats the way I carry the 709. I carry my OSS or my P89 decocked. Just puts the odds in my favor of NOT doing something stupid. IE: hole where you don't want one !

I'm taking no chances - manual safety is ON.

Re: Question on safety of carrying with one in chamber

I bought the 709 as a backup and an IWB alternate when certain clothing does does not cover the 145 OWB. I chose the 709 because it has a manual safety

I carry either gun the same way - with a round chambered and the safety on

Re: Question on safety of carrying with one in chamber

I think you have to come up with a "system", for safety's sake.

My home defense arsenal is all revolver. All loaded simple defense with a good light. Every floor.

Carry guns vary from winter to summer. Winter: PT145 w/safety on, one chambered. Summer: pocket weapon from my "pocket" designated safe.

I unchamber semis and lock up carry stuff as soon as I get home.

On a car trip I haul my Glock 36 along because I don't mind scratching it up.

Some of this can change with a new buy, but unlikely.

Re: Question on safety of carrying with one in chamber

Dittoes/ I have a 709 I carry OWB and also pocket in a coat when needed.

One racked and the safety on.

Modern firearms are meant NOT to go off unless you pull the trigger with the safety off (unless it's a revolver of course).
