    The Wife's First Gun

Well, today we picked up the wife's first gun... ever...

I've been in to guns since day one. I love guns. Her father has been in to guns before he started seeing her mother. She grew up in a household of guns. She has no fear of them and loves to go to the range with me; however, she has never shot a gun. She can't really explain why to me, either. Heck, I took my Ruger Redhawk .44 mag out with my wife by my side. I thought she'd be startled. I had double hearing protection. After the first couple of shots she uncovered her ears and said, "That's not so bad."

Well, my love of firearms was rejuvenated with my PT1911. I was drooling all over my 1911 on Taurus's website. I started browsing through all of their guns when my wife spotted one... The Taurus PT22NG with the nickel finish, various gold plated parts, and pink mother of pearl grips. She said, "If I had that I would go shooting with you."

I bought that thing so fast your head would spin.

Yes, it's a .22, but for her first gun ever, I want her to get comfortable with how to shoot before we start stepping it up. Plus, I would buy the gun for myself if it would get my wife to finally shoot with me. It arrived tonight, we'll pick it up tomorrow, then I'll post pictures.

Until then, I'll just post a generic photo I found on Google.

    Re: The Wife's First Gun

The first handgun my wife ever shot was a Taurus PT92 that had went through a fire. I replaced the parts that were not scorched and cleaned it good and it went at least 4000 rounds antil I sold it. She loved shooting it and now we have a PT99 for a house gun.

Very nice story. I hope your wife enjoys "her" gun. I bet it won't be long before she shoots better then you.
    Old age isn't for pansies!!

Due to the rising cost of ammo. A warning shot will NOT be fired!!

    Re: The Wife's First Gun

I already told her she'll get comfortable with it and want to take the next step up. Hopefully by then I'll have the Springfield XD .40 S&W I've been eying...

I don't think it'll be long before she wants a 1911 of her own.

I think I'm more excited for her to have her first gun than she is.

Way to go 67 , Get her out there and show her what she's been missing by not pulling the trigger herself now .

Thanks, guys. Lord knows I've been trying my hardest to get her to go. I've got to give a huge thanks to Taurus that caters to the feminine shooter, as well. If it wasn't for the visual appeal to her, regardless of how comfortable the gun feels, she wouldn't have wanted the gun.

Thanks, Taurus. You have another shooter on board.

    Re: The Wife's First Gun

Good plan. Work on safety, accuracy and confidence and slowly work her up to a caliber suitable for self defense that she can handle and shoot well. All husbands/significant others should do likewise. The bonus, of course is having your spouse share a great hobby and helping her acquire skills like this can only be a good thing.
Tell me, have I been here before?

First thing you know, she'll be highjacking your 1911 and meeting the girls at the range. You'll be proud that day!

    Re: The Wife's First Gun

1911lover and Panda, you guys are spot on. She's been more and more understanding when it comes to my guns. I just bought a couple hundred rounds of .45ACP for my PT1911 today and she didn't even flinch. She keeps rolling her eyes when I tell her she'll be asking me to shoot my .45, but I know that's where we're headed.

Hell, her mother wasn't really into guns. Her father bought a few pistols when he wanted to get his CCW and really started getting into shooting. Now, her mother has her CCW, bought a couple pistols of her own, is taking tactical shooting courses, and is going to start re-loading! I'm praying she takes after her mother. Now how many times do you hear THAT?!
