Some of the parts on the newer PT92s are polymer? Really? Like what?
I just got a 1994 Pt99AF and it is solid. I am going to pick up a newer Pt92w/rail and when handling the two the old one feels beefier. I know some of the parts on the newer ones are polymer but I dont see how that would make that much of a difference. Anybody notice this?

Anything worth being shot is worth being shot twice.
The only parts on the new PT92's that are Polymer, that I am aware of, are the Rear Sights, Recoil Spring Guide Rods, and Grips. If there are more, that would be interesting to know.Originally Posted by Shooter in VA

I would like to see the new polymer recoil rod. Can you buy one?
Call Taurus CS, ask for the Parts Department, and order it.Originally Posted by adam731432
As I like the Stainless Steel original Recoil Spring Guiderod, why would you want a Polymer One?

I kinda like the new polymer rod that Beretta uses. They allow a little flex for better reliability. I have seen bent recoil rods jam the slide.Probably from dropping the pistol with the slide back. Also its really a non issue but a polymer one will not wear on the corresponding parts of the slide it interacts with and would create less friction. They are disposable though but cheap to replace. I would keep the stainless one for backup. I just trust polymer also as i have seen glocks go threw thousands of rounds with one. I also like the idea of a captured spring rod if the Beretta one will fit.
I wouldn't say there better or worse. Both of them have trade offs. I have seen plastic ones chip around the head or break in half from the heat of a 1000 round non stop torture test but usually the polymer one will eject out the end and the pistol will keep running as they are really only to help assemble the spring in the gun, where a shattered or bent metal one will jam it up. I would just like to use a cheap polymer one for the bulk of shooting and keep my stainless one pristine for carry.
