Will beretta 92 grips fit the pt92/pt99??? Need wrap arounds for my pt99!

I just bought a PT99 (first hand gun ) off of gun broker for 415 shipped NIB (black). I am dying to get it!

I already know I want to get wrap around (with finger groove) grips for it. My problem is...im having trouble locating grips for it!

I checked with Pachmayr and it appears they only sell non finger grooved wrap arounds.
Hogue carries NO wrap arounds listed directly for pt99/92 BUT does have its 92000 grip which is labeled for the beretta 92/96 guns.

Will this grip fit the pt99? Any other options for rubber wrap around w/ finger grooves?

    Thanks in advance!
    Mike

This is the gun I bought for reference.

I just looked at pachmayr again and did see it lists that for the pt99 (decocker model) they have their finger groove grips available.

I would prefer the hogue's (I really like hogues rubber and personally think they look a little cleaner on the gun). But I dont want to take a dremel and totally hack apart some grips to make them work.

In general, the Beretta 92 grips will not work, unless you can modify them.

I think you would be better off with those Pachmayer Finger Groove grips. I have thought about buying those, myself.

My solution to the problem was an Uncle Mikes/Butler Creek Grip Sleeve, as it's thinner than the Hogue Handall Slip On Grip. I did try the Hogue Handall, but found it uncomfortable on the PT92's already large grip.

Re: Will beretta 92 grips fit the pt92/pt99??? Need wrap arounds for my pt99!

    Thanks for the info!

The pachmayrs are slowly growing on me but there is something about the simplicity of the hogues for the beretta I really like.

Here is a pic of a beretta 92 with the hogues. Does anyone see or know of the obvious places that will need trimming to fit? To me, it looks like the left side is pre-clearanced (like the pachymayr) for the de-cocker even though the berettas do not have the decocker on the 92.

I am hoping to track down somebody or a place with the beretta wrap around finger groove hogues that I can try to slap on the pt99 to see what needs to be adjusted to make it work.

I dont know enough about the history of changes between the beretta and the PT series to know what has been moved/adjusted/enlarged or made smaller that could pose a problem with putting the 92FS Grip on my PT99. I have heard the magazines do not work unless you work the mag release area a little bit. Did Taurus move the mag release button on the PT series? If that was one of the areas that needs to be adjusted at least it would be easy to trim.

Hopefully somebody can help me out! I dont really want to buy them if there is some ridiculous trimming involved but I just cant visually see what would cause a problem.

It looks like the grip screws are in different places on the frame. Look at the top screw on both guns. Line it up with the trigger on both gun pics. The taurus top screw is lower. Mark

I can tell you from experience that the pachmayr wrap arounds, even the ones labeled for use with a PT99 will not work with the stock screws, come with no instruction and no method to attach the 'back strap' to the supplied grips. I sent tthem back in favor of the houge's.

Good call on the grip screws, you are definitely right there is no modifying that! Not without an extra hole.

Can the pachmayrs be used without the backstrap (did you try mounting?). I just planned on picking up new grip screws anyway so thats no biggy.

The backstrap thing did confuse me...does it just squeeze between the two ends of the grips and is held on by friction (when u tighten down the grip screws?)??? As long as I could still install it without the backstrap and not have a rough edge or anything at the back of the gun I might give them a go.

I guess worst case I can always just return them and go with the hogue rubber plates.

I have Pachmayr grip with fingergrooves and backstrap on my PT99AF decock.
In order to make the panelscrews fit, you just have to cut or 'scrape' off the small elevated edges in the screwholes on the Pachmayr grip! - took me around 5 mins . When fitting the grip, don't screw the panelscrews all the way in, but leave just enough room to press in the backstrap. Press the backstrap in and tighten the panelscrews! TADAAH

I apologize the bad english and wish you all a merry x-mas from the other side of the pond.
