    Savage 17 HMR Rifle

I had a motorcycle in the garage that I bought new in 2005.
8 years later it had 752 miles on the odometer. I decided to sell it and buy a different toy.

That turned out to be this Savage 93R17BTVS.

The Harris bipod is real. The impressive looking scope is a $40 Tasco from Walmart, but it serves the purpose.

After bore-sighting we took it to the range.
I did something wrong with the bore sighter, because the first target had a tight group
7" high and 5" right of the target. After that was corrected I got this target.

A click right and another click down might have had it perfect.
I'm a machinist. If you are within tolerance, don't press your luck!

Then we started to have fun. Golf balls at 50 yards.

We fired 25 shots at golf balls with only one miss. We won't say WHO missed, we'll just all
    point and whistle at Roger.

Those little dark spots are entry points, but there were no exit points.
The 17 HMR is a very safe round for that reason.
It disintegrates on impact and ricochets are very rare.

I did cut one of those golf balls apart to see what I'd find.
I found almost the total weight of the bullet.

The recovered material weighed 16.7 grains from a 17 grain bullet.
Must have lost something in the translation.

That's a beautiful rifle, congrats! I like the golf ball pic, too.

I love my 93. In my opinion, Savage makes some of the better rimfire rifles. Good looking gun!

A sweet report! What is the target distance on the shoot?

Check out the TA monthly shootout in the Firing Line section of the forum. There are pistol and rifle options. Looks like you're good to go!!

I also have the BTVSS, and a standard blued 93R. Both are quite good accuracy-wise, and a lot of fun to shoot at 50-100 yards. Mine use a Nikko-Sterling, and a Nikon scope. If the ammo was a bit less expensive, they'd see more action.

    That was from 50 yards.

I already have sights set on my next 17 caliber rifle.
Has anyone else seen the the Winchester .17 Super Mag?
2000 fpm out of the muzzle.

Again, Savage is making the rifle. The Savage B.MAG 17
A local gun shop is taking $50 deposits for them right now.
Their price is $299.95 with an expected May 2013 availability.

With my back condition I my never be able to pull the trigger on my 7MM Mag rifle,
but I can comfortably shoot these 17's all day long.

All the new info I've seen claim that round is faster than that, at 2600 fps to 3000 fps. Sounds like it has awesome potential.
