It sure looks like the 500 youth model that I have. I bought it for my wife, but I am the only one who ever shoots it! I like the size of it. I really like the position of the safety on Mossbergs.

A long time ago in a far away land I shot skeet and trap, just for fun. I'm about as poor a shotgunner as you will ever know. I palled with a 2nd class Hospital Corpsman that was a fantastic skeet shooter. His favorite gun was a Remington Model 1100 Skeet chambered in 2 1/2" 410. He topped the skeet scores regularly against all comers. When we were bored he would go over to the 16 yard traps and it was absolutely the best entertainment on the Base to watch him take out the 12 ga. shooters using his skeet 410. The 27 yard? traps were out of his range but it was a lot of fun to watch!!!

Nice! I love Mossberg shotguns. Now, if you don't already have one, you need to get a Judge to keep your shotgun company!![]()
HE thinks, therefore I am! <><
Revolverfan. I just can't warm to the Judge concept. I have done some work with a 2 1/2" version, hand loading 410 loads into 444 Marlin cases. They worked extremely well, and I like doing that but I don't want a Judge.
Very nice peice!
Years ago I had a Montgomery Wards version. Traded it for a handgun and been kicking myself ever since. Perfect for rabbits and tree rats. I am looking for a 410 barrel for my NEF for hunting.
I have used a Mossberg 500 youth in .410 from Walmart and it was a lot of fun. easy to shoot, accurate and reliable.
Have one that I bought for my daughter when she was 12 yrs. old. She killed a lot of squirrels with it and also killed a small wild hog with it. I use to load 000 buckshot for her to carry in case we run across a hog. One day while hunting squirrels a small hog ran close to her and the 000 did there job. Has been in safe now for about 20 yrs. A lot of good memories always come back when i take gun out of safe to oil. Hopefully will get to give to Grandchild when they get old enough. Great little gun.
Guesser your 410 brings back a lot of good memories. One of my best friends passed the end of last year. We enjoyed hunting and fishing together as kids and until he died. As we got older the small bore 410 and 28 gauges became our favorites again. He liked the pumps and over/unders, I enjoy side by sides. The little pumps like yours are dependable, and as said before wing shooting requires being dead on. I like the short 2 1/2" shells, shot size depends on game. The small bores put the sport back into small game hunting. The last few years we hunted together was more about listening to the dogs run or wing shooting doves, or quail sometimes. The taking of game came second to enjoying being out and remembering days of our youth. What was killed was always enjoyed as much when ate as killed. Hunting with the small bore shotguns to me is like handgun hunting. It is a time to get out, and enjoy the wonderful world God has made. There are times I would rather watch game than shoot it. Watching deer, squirrels, fox, racoons, etc., can often be fun. Watching a coon turn rocks over in a stream and hunt crawfish. A fox hunt mice or chipmunks, a fawn learn about the world around it. We miss a lot by being in a hurry.
