This Weekend Appleseed Celebrating 237 years of LIBERTY

Appleseed Celebrating 237 years of LIBERTY

The Daughter and I will be shooting an Appleseed this weekend up at the Hernando Sportsman Club to celebrate Patriot Day down here in Florida.
There are 4 Appleseed Shoots scheduled for Florida and over 100 scheduled this weekend across the nation. So everyone in area of us on TAURUSARMED should be able to get to one and have a great time. (and bring a friend, wife, kid, neighbor, co-worker)
You will learn something. You will meet some great people. You will have fun doing it.

Keep your eyes open at Hernando. Massad Ayoob shot at that one last year. He has a home in the Florida big bend area I believe. You might run into him there.
In any type of fight, & especially gun fights, there are no winners ..... just varying degrees of losers. The only fight you win is the one you never get into.

Every human being is different from each other. That fact, is precisely what makes us all the same.

Lets not over think common sense.

That would be very cool. I've enjoyed reading his books and magazine articles for many years.

    I'm No Longer A Cook!!!

AAR - Rising Fawn, GA - May 12-13

Although a rainy weekend was forecast, I decided that I would take the trip anyway if my nephew was up for it. He was. So we drove the hour and forty minutes to our hotel in Trenton, GA. We drove down to Rising Fawn at daybreak on Saturday expecting to be among only a few willing to brave the elements. To my surprise about 15 shooters showed up for the first day.

    Saturday:

The rain that was forecast held off and we had what can only be described as perfect conditions for an Appleseed shoot. The sky was partly cloudy, not too sunny, and the temp peaked around 71 degrees. The day began with the traditional shooting of the "Redcoat" targets so everyone could get a baseline. The shoot boss then told the "first-strike" story to remind us why we shoot the Redcoat and all that we take for granted. Instruction started as usual with an explanation of the prone position and demonstration of proper sling usage. We then fired at "squares" (five [5] one-inch black squares on a 1/4-inch grid) so that everyone could sight in their rifles while practicing the prone position. Lunch was accompanied by the telling of the "second strike" story. Once the rifles were sighted in, we were instructed on the seated/kneeling positions, followed by more practice. Finally, we were given an education on proper standing (off-hand) shooting, followed by even more practice. The day ended with two army qualification tests (AQT) sessions and the telling of the "third strike."

    Sunday:

The rain had started sometime during the night and would not let up for the remainder of the day. Only three shooters showed up for the second day of the shoot. Probably due to the fact it was going to rain all day, and it was Mother's Day. Luckily for us, the range had a covered area and we would be relatively dry for the day's AQT's. The day pretty much consisted of shooting AQT's, broken up by a few lessons here and there. We broke for lunch and enjoyed hearing more stories about "dangerous old men." To my surprise, at the end of our lunch a special announcement was made. During the second-to-last AQT of the morning I had earned my rifleman score (a 219 to be exact)! My nephew decided he wanted to use my rifle (he must have thought mine was better since I had shot rifleman), but after a while decided he was shooting better with his own. We continued shooting until about 4:00 before calling it a day.
