Ok guys I'm going to start my AR build and what I need from you guys is to stay on me about it. I have a tendancy to start several things at once thus taking forever to finish anything. So please keep the questions up on my progress so that I will stay focused on the build.
So far all I have done is order the tools I think I will need for this. I could probably get it done with what I already have but hey it's an excuse for a new set of tools
I will start ordering parts in the next day or so and I will keep you all posted with pics when they come in. Ill also post pics of my progress. So please guys, stay on me to finish this as quickly as possible.
Any suggestions on a jig to do my forged lower?
I'm thinking of this one. Northwest Custom Precision, Inc.
Puts it at the same price as my lower and the same for shipping.
OK. Tomorrow is payday for my SS.
Ordering the jig for my forged lower from Northwest Custom Precision.
$70 with shipping.
So if anybody needs one to do their 80% lower, I'll pay shipping to you, you pay shipping back.
USPS Priority Small Flat Rate Box.
Let's share it around for who ever needs it.
I finally decided to get a Magpul MS4 sling. I ordered the QD adapter for my stock. I found a combination hand stop / QD mount to put on the forend but it will be awhile arriving.
Good deal. Except I want to upgrade to either 18" or 20" 1:8 twist for better accuracy with Match ammo.
I want to sell my DPMS lower to pay for the "Ghost Gun" I'm building.
80% forged lower from Ares Armor.
Decided it was too nice to be at work so I left, and headed to the range with the newest AR build. Only took it to test for function, I returned with all of my parts and the rifle ran perfectly! I have put Magpul MBUS on it and they were actually almost dead on at the close range I was shooting (25yds). Now that I know it holds together and functions I will concentrate on accuracy next trip.
UPS will be here in a couple hours with the last couple pieces for build number two! These were supposed to be winter projects but I'm worse than a kid when it comes to things like this. After this one is done, I will have one more lower to play with. Not sure what the plan is with that one yet, so it may very well be a winter project.
And done. Haven't decided on sights/optic yet. Used a Yankee Hill free float fore end, PSA complete lower build kit, 16" 1/9 mid length barrel fromPSA and BCG, all on Anderson upper and lower. Plan to duracoat this as well, probably not until spring as I don't know what color I want to use yet and my weather will be too cold soon for paint. Total as she sits is $560 with FFL/shipping included in that.
I know the pic doesn't show it well, I will get better ones as time allows.
Just got back from the range. Cycled 100 flawless rounds of Federal 55 grain FMJ. Now I can say my build is complete. I've had it assembled for a few weeks, but not had time for a range test. Very happy with my new carbine. Anderson upper and lower receiver. Anderson B.C.G. Rock River L.P.K. with two stage match trigger. Hogue hand guard, buttstock, and grip. Battle Tested Equipment adjustible gas block. Bushnell 1-4x24mm scope.
well, finally broke down and continued on my build. Ordered the Ares Phosphate BCG. Only other major expenses will be the barrel and the optics. Still need the gas block, gas tube, hand guard, charging handle, flash hider and BUIS
Anyone have any experience with these? This is an 8.25" with everything included for $429. They have a few different lengths available. Seems like an easy way to go to at least try out an AR pistol.
I went out to the range to sight in my iron sights and scope. Ran into issues right off the bat. I bought some Battle Rifle .223 reman ammo from my LGS. When I charged the ammo it seemed to seat correctly. However, when I went to fire it nothing happened. I tried to eject the round and it was like trying to pull the sword from the stone to get it out. I looked at the casing and didn't notice any galling or any other off nominal indicators on the round. I broke my gun down and checked it and didn't notice any issues either. I performed this cycle 4 more times with the same issue. I concluded that the casing was not properly sized up near the rim. I spoke to a number of people, spotted for them, talked about my build, etc. so it was not a complete loss. I finally remembered that I had a few rounds of the factory ammo from my first trip so I loaded it up and it shot fine.
I spoke to the LGS owner about the issue. I gave him the ammo and he checked the sizing on both the good and the bad rounds and didn't find a obvious difference. He then stopped by my house to see the issue first hand and try to better troubleshoot the issue. He concluded the same thing I did and will work with Battle Rifle to see if they can track it down. He offered to give me my money back. I told him I was only interested in helping them identify and correct the issue. Once corrected I would just get functional ammo. I suspect that one or both of them will offer a few extra boxes for the trouble.
Got two, new frontier complete lowers ( they are so cheaply made ) ordered parts, all in all about 460.00 for one complete. Don't think ill do cheap again. Live and learn.
