I've been interested in the same thing, and have, for some time, been considering a .357 Magnum/9mm revolver convertible. If you don't mind, I'll watch this thread along with you.
I am in the process of looking into getting another gun, with the intention of being primarily a range gun. I'd like something in 9mm (due to cost of ammo). Suggestions?

Sounds good to me! I don't own any revolvers and don't have much experience with them either, could be an interesting option for a range gun.
Am looking at the Beretta PX4 in full size.![]()

I bought PT92 for that, but I'm thinking a 1911 (Taurus, RIA, or whatever) would have been a better choice.

The only 9mm/.357 convertible revolver I am aware of is a Ruger Blackhawk. As far as a PX4 Storm, Bud's has a constant action (Type C) in 9mm for $399 and a DAO (Type D) Police trade in .40 cal for $299. I have them both and really like them. The Type C is unique and similar to a Sig DAK trigger, where the gun goes into half cock when cycled. This results in a shorter DAO type constant trigger. Hope this helps.
Also, I have seen several people talking about the galleryofguns website selling a Turkish SAR B6 for under $300 and I am seriously contemplating this one.
The Taurus 24/7 G2 and 809 are fantastic choices. I have put 1000's of rounds through mine at the range, no issues. Outside of Taurus, a good, used S&W M&P 9mm can be found for sub $400. I found one in the range kit at the gun show for $379.

I'll also chime in for the 800 Series Taurus. I have 2 9mms, a .40, and a .45 in these and I think they are my favorite. All of mine have been great out of the box, but I would recommend you dry-fire before purchase as I have seen some posts on here about people having trigger issues, but again, all 4 of mine have been perfect.
Suggestions?
yep!
how bout a 22 semi auto!
like a browning buckmark, Ruger MK , beretta neos? all have adjsutable sights , are dirt cheap to shoot, are accurate.
Nothing wrong with the revolvers, but if a range gun then i say a 6 inch barrel and adjsutable sights as a minimum!
in 9MM, STI makes a really nice Spartan series in 9MM that has a 5 inch barrel and adjustable sights( 600-650), EAA makes a Witness model in 9MM with adjustable sights, match barrel and other goodies for a great price( 550-600).
IF you can find a now discontinued Taurus 99 it has adjustable sights and would likely be a best buy, and depending on money there are several other 1911's that come with adjustable sights and such but you are going to be in the 900 plus range likely.

you Know Armscor (RIA) is suppose to have their 1911 -10 MM hitting the shelves shortly and it has a match grade barrel, adjustable sights, vent trigger, spur hammer and such and i think actual cost is about 600 for it?
IF yo get the RIA suggest that you go with the tactical so you can easily replace the sights on it, and it comes with the ambi safety, vent trigger, spur hammer, beavertail too!
I can;t say i was overly pleased with my RIA tactical (45acp)out of the box but after a bit of smoothing and replacing the front sight I like it now.
Dollar for dollar nothing i own comes close to the Taurus PT1911 SS in 38 Super that i bought!
