    KelTec back to manufacturer

At 250 rounds, my P-11 lost it's empty mag slide lock - the tab broke. "Oh well," I figured, "lots of guns don't lock the slide open when the mag is empty." Kept using it. Then, a couple weeks ago, the take down pin came out a bit and locked the slide open (after the last round, no less.) I thought I could rig up a way to keep the take down pin from coming out. Then, last time I was out, I started getting jams. Noticed that the shell ejector tab was broke (not the extractor.)

Guess it's time to send it in. A little surprised to see these small parts failing, even though it's an inexpensive gun. When all the parts are working, it eats a wider range of ammo more reliably than most of my other 9mm's.

Any other Keltec owners have these problems? Mine has about 1000 rounds on it now.

I bought a Keltec 9mm when they first came out back in the 90's. Had so many problems...like a cartridge stuck in the barrel...wasn't sure if it was still a live round or not. Scared the hell out of me. Numerous FTE/FTF. Long story short...sent it back...they returned it and I got rid of it. Swore I would never buy a Keltec again. I have no idea if the quality of the firearm has improved and I am not spending any money to find out.

I hope for your sake they are better guns than when I bought mine!

Mine was reliable as far as cycling ammo, but I'm just suprised 3 separate small parts are having problems. Because of it's past reliability, I'll keep the gun once it's repaired, but I don't think it'll be one of my prime defensive carry guns like it used to be. It'll be a back-up, either as a 2nd carry or when my other 9mm's are out of commission.

Probably won't see much range time as it once did, either, now that I see how relatively fragile some of the components are.

I've got about 1000 through my PF9 with no issues so far. Send it back in, I've heard pretty good things about their customer service. And if you haven't polished the feed ramp yet, ask them to do it - I've read that they will for no charge.

Have owned and shot several of the Kel Tec guns in 380 and 9mm. Only had problems with one in 9mm. The chamber was cut too deep and the firing pin could not hit the primer. Gun never fired, they replaced the barrel and have never had another problem. It has been used as a range gun for several years. Have no clue what the round count is on the gun now. It is seldom cleaned and runs with everything it has been fed. I am not a 9mm or 380 fan, but Kel Tec guns in both rounds have performed well as range guns. Any gun that has function problems goes back to the factory, after the second trip it is traded. Over the years myself and friends have had issues with guns from every company. Some of the largest companies have been the worst to deal with. Kel Tec was quick to repair the problem and return the gun.

No problems w/ my PF-9 up to this point. I bought it used, and I have put three hundred rounds through so far. I had to fiddle with the windage a little bit, but now it shoots POA out to 15 yards. BTW, I too have heard that Kel-Tec customer service is supposed to be pretty good.......

I have a P11. It has been sent back to the factory twice. First time was a broken ejector. Second time was a cracked inner frame, broken ejector again, and needed a new barrel. They replaced everything except the grip frame and slide. I don't know what my round count is. I think I am over 3000. I carry this gun almost everyday and trust it completely. I don't shoot it nearly as much as I used to. The pictures show the cracked frame.

Yes, I don't want to get rid of my P-11. The DAO triggers are very stiff when new, and that combined with the short grip made it hard for me to shoot accurately at first.

But now, the trigger is really sweeeet. (Or I've just gotten used to it...which I guess means that I'M really sweeeet ) I've also invested in a longer aftermarket mag w/accessories and a mag shoe for the original mag. I now get a much better grip on the gun, and as a result, can shoot it very accurately. Some of the internal components may not be as durable as higher end guns, but when all the parts are healthy, the gun shoots as reliably as any semi-auto I own.

Just called Keltec this AM, and will be sending it back today. It's all boxed up and ready to go.
