Excelent Price. Congrats!
While doing my usual Friday afternoon gun browsing, I decided to purchase a new SD9 VE from a local gun shop. S&W brought back the SD9 in this version after they discontinued the original some months back.
Differences between the SD9 and SD9 VE:
- SD9 had front night sight, Melonite black slide and M&P rear sight (MSRP was $479)
- SD9 VE has 3-dot sights (no tritium front), satin stainless slide (MSRP is $379)
Trigger pull is a consistent 8 lbs with a crisp, audible reset (unlike the M&P)
I picked it up for $295+tax (Sigma price territory)

Excelent Price. Congrats!
Well, at least this doesn't get me anywhere near as envious as the Colt and Smith & Wesson revolvers you are always picking up!

There are way to many people who consider Taurus to be off-brand. Yet, S&W, who hasn't managed to field a pistol of any value since the 1980s until the M&P series, is still considered by them to be Tier I semis. Until the M&P, S&W couldn't GIVE their Semi-autos to a Police Department. The last serious users were the CHP, with their 4006, and some small departments even earlier with their Model 59s.
I agree about the perception of Taurus....undeserved as it is.
The 4-digit metal framed S&W's were widely accepted in LE...NYPD still authorizes the 5946 (until their supply at the Equipment Bureau runs out) And they are probably the best value on the used gun market right now, save for the price of spare magazines.
I don't consider this SD9 VE to be a "Tier 1" semi-auto, but it sure is a nicely machined pistol for under $300.
