I'm still pretty new to the Taurus line but check out the TOP 9s webpage. At least 3 Taurus models are in the list and if not new- used should be affordable. I've bought plenty of used guns and some dealers have great relationships for LEO trade ins and you could land a Sig ora Glock on a good day. I owned one and the Ruger P95 is a totally reliable 9mm tack driver. It is a full sized pistol. I made a change to ALL light DOA or striker pistols and sold my 95 with some regrets. Buds still has them new for $305 in blue finish. Ruger P95 9mm Blue, w Rail 15 round $305.00 SHIPS FREE Good luck with the search - keep us posted. New Kel Tecs are worth a look as well...Who sells what in your neck of the woods!?

If you don't mind me asking OF, where do you live or general location. Maybe there is a member here who may have something to sell on a face to face deal.

I just did a quick search on Bud's FFL finder, and they show seven FFL dealers within 23 miles of Bugtussle (Man, you know you're in the Bluegrass State when the towns have names like Bugtussle and Rabbit Hatch ). None of them are "preferred FFL dealers" which means you have to call them first to make sure they'll do the transfer. And if they'll do a transfer for Bud's, chances are they'll do them for anyone. Course the transfer itself is going to cost a few bucks. Around here my FFL does them for $15, but some dealers really try to sock it to you. JAT

A Ruger P 95 9mm is around three hundred. Some come with two clips. Fifteen rounds a piece. Plenty of firepower and thirty rounds. Also 9mm is not real expensive.

My 2 cents: Hi-Point, 9mm or .45 either can be had for around $200.00 bucks new. Heavy as hell but strong and dependable....

db stole my thunder there. Also you could look at Davidson's Gallery of Guns and do a Gun Genie search. The prices are usually too high for me, but that will show the dealers around your zip code. Good luck with that, and please keep us posted.

    P.S.
Since a lot of the dealers that show up on my searches are pawn shops, you might just use that as a shopping list to know where to go look.

Ruger P95 9mm Blue, w Rail 15 round $305.00 SHIPS FREE One of the best performing best budget 9mm's to be had. Everybody should have one. These will eat any ammo. Decent DA/SA trigger especially S/A and Glock like durability. Good sites. Easy to beak down and service. Plenty of replacement parts. Lots of after market accessories and high cap mags are available. A little bulky for carry but doable. Lifetime warranty. 9mm is going to be your best bet for affordable ammo. 147 grain +p hollow point is not too shabby for defensive ammo. This is what I owned when I was in your shoes and will again if need be.

I would recommend .357 in a revolver since it gives you versatility of ammo, even if all you shoot is .38 if it is manufactured for .357 so you have the insurance of knowing it is designed for higher pressure hence more durability. You always have that option as well, .357.

Rossi 461, 2in Barrel, 357 Mag, Rubber Grips, Blued $297.00 SHIPS FREE Quality similar to Taurus inspect and inspect prior to taking delivery. Old school firing pin on hammer no transfer bar(which I like better) and one extra round in the cylinder for $300. 38/357 not really budget ammo per say unless you hand load, but very versatile and .357 should stop a boar(I think)?! Lifetime warranty.

EAA 770130 WINDICATOR 357 2IN BL STEEL $277.00 SHIPS FREE Nothing to write home about but their quality seems to be improving as of late. Again inspect, inspect inspect.

Bud's pic looked a little beat up (which may have more to do with the pic than the weapon), but if they function (as I assume they do) it's a 16 round 9mm that's reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot. Most of these are Israeli Surplus from their Shooting Club Armories. Most are in pretty decent shape but may require a few Springs or some such minor maintenance. Have had two of these in the past and served me very well.

Other good used handguns to watch out for, in no particular Order:

Ruger Security or Speed Six in .357 Magnum ( have a snub Speed Six, great Revolver!)
    Ruger GP100
    Taurus M66
    S&W 586/686
    S&W M27
EAA Witness Steel ( I have four)
    Taurus PT92, PT911, 24/7, PT111 ( PT92 and 24/7 owner)
    Ruger P85, P89, P95
    Walther P1/P38 ( I have three)

Some of the aforementioned may not be in your price range, but be slightly above it.

I agree with the pawnshops, Academy, and finding a local person with one for sale. All are good ways to find one, gunshows are another place to look.I bought a used Ruger 357 with a 3" barrel for under $150 from a pawn shop. It had bad surface rust on one side from being wet under a car seat. Looks rough but shoots great. Gun had been shot very little before I got it, for what I use it for looks does not matter and couldn't beat the price.
