Hooooold on there just one dang minute. I'll do the thinnin around here. Just going with my namesake.
Seriously.
The Bersa is a modeled on the Walther P88 which is one of the best pistols out there in its time. The P88 was too expensive for Most Americans and gun buyers in general. Bersa just got smart and ran with something proven. Tweaked a few things, but the gun works from what the media and the Bersa forum is saying.
That model of Bersa has a sterling track record so far. No major problems. As a matter of fact there is a recent thread on those and the guns worked well.

Oh no doubt the Bersa is a great gun to, I think you'd be hard pressed to go wrong with any one of these. I just noted that at one time I had a Bersa 45 UC I paid 300 for and you can't find them less then 400, same with their full size guns... guess they really caught on huh =P

OK, here's my two cents worth:
I’ve had my share of semi autos from 1911s to Glocks to Berettas and a bunch in between. My two favorites and I would have to say the most accurate and reliable will be the PT840 and the Sigma 9ve. These two will digest just about anything I feed them. The bottom line, for me, is that both of these guns were under $300 each and they are as good and in some casses better than the $500 and $600 pistols I once owned. These two are well worth considering, especially if funds are limited.
You only have the rights you are willing to fight for.
Well, for me, it boils down to the Sigma 9ve and the Bersa Thunder 380. Both have been great performers.

O.K. Here's my two cents. Go drive your local gun store guy nuts, but remember that he's probably armed. lol
Ask to handle several guns. Most "feel" different. Look for some that point naturally in your hand. Note how each one balances in your hand. Remember that the weight of 15 or 18 rounds of ammo will change the balance. Then go home and research the several that felt good. Read their manuals of arms, (usually on their web site), check magazine capacity, repair records, and even available accessories, etc. Go visit those brands' forums and see what actual owners say about them. We have a "Complaints" department here to make it easy for you to find common Taurus problems.
Some ranges rent guns to shoot. Locate one, and go try some of your selections. Several sessions will really help to narrow your choices.
I went for the the PT-92 because of several key features that I wanted. And, it "fills" my hand. (some say large) It is a bit front heavy,(4.9 inch bbl and rail) but this was to be and is my S.H.T.F. side arm, not for E.D.C. To me the ability of safe Condition One in a super-reliable, high capacity 9mm platform was of paramount importance. It also is my nightstand gun.
Enjoy your search, and good luck.
