I cruise the pawn shops often. Today I saw a used Sig 228 with 1 -10 round mag. You can see definite holster wear, and a few scratches on it, looks dirty. The price is $499. Feels solid. I began to talk to the guy about the gun-he finally said $300 cash. Of course I can't shoot it to test it- so.
Anyone think this may be a bargain- or a dead dog???
Oh- 9mm.

Wow, the price of $300 is ridiculous! If the action seems pretty good and the bore is in good shape, it sounds like a good deal. Will they stand behind the purchase if there are problems after you purchase it? I would probably buy it. It's a coin flip because it's sort of a "too good to be true" kind of thing, but you could go home with a heck of a pistol for very reasonable money....

Well, I thought about it over lunch. I went back and the guy let me break it down- looks good on the inside, tight, no wobbles, a little wear on the outside of the barrel where it contacts the slide.
I took it- $327 out the door. We will see.
Congtratulations!

That's an exceptional deal for a 228.

Have you read TheTruthAboutGuns.com today?
Agreed. You really can't go wrong with a $300 Sig. I keep my eyes peeled all the time at various shops for unknown gems that come along. I bought a German made Walther PPK/S at a box store out of their used gun shelf for $350. The blued finish was about 70% and I sold the gun on GB for $625..lol I have a few other similar PPKs so it was an easy flip.
Pics......
I don't think there is anything wrong with this gun- once cleaned up it looks barely used. But it was dirty-
I'll have a chance to shoot it Sunday afternoon-
