Couldn't resist the sale this time

Besides, my 4 gun cap and ball collection lacks a '58 Remington and I like this short barrel version. I've been thinkin' about getting one for a while. It's always on sale for either 199 or 219, but I just couldn't resist at this price.

"Easily removable/replaceable cylinders make reloading extremely fast. "

Is this true? Do you plan to buy multiple cylinders so you don't have to reload every time? I'd like to know how this gun works out, hopefully you'll give us a range report.....

    Congrats !

Yes, the Remington is the most convenient for cylinder swaps. Cylinders are about 40 or 50 a piece, no fitting required. I'll order a couple, but I wanna test fire the gun first. I have a '51 navy with two spare cylinders, but the navy requires removing the barrel wedge. Every see the gun fight at the end of "Pale Rider"? Clint Eastwood is usiing a 58 remington and loading this way. Just lower the load lever, pull out the center pin, make the swap, you're in business. If the gun proves accurate enough, I could see using it aas a field knock about guy. My Navy really isn't, shoots about 4" groups at 25, but that's good enolugh for fun shooting. My Ruger Old Army is the tack driver, but it's a big heavy beast.

I have a leather rig set up for my Navy with large HKS speedloader pouches that hold the cyliinders, pretty cool. It'll fit this Remmy, too. I also bought a cross draw flap holster for my ROA should I wanna carry that afield. I ALSO have a 63 Remmy .31 pocket model which loads the same way, but I never bought spare cylinders for that one.

I like that one. Makes me tempted to get into blackpowder.

What do you think of the brass framed one? Less durable?

Chich, brassers are okay, but have to be loaded light as the brass will stretch over time. That's especially true of the open top Colts. I have a brass Colt Navy, in .44 to boot, but just load it light and it'll last a long, long time. I didn't realize this in my mis-spent youth and stretched a brass Navy beyond use in about 5 years with not that many range trips. I load my Navy with no more than 25 grain equivalents of Pyrodex. It's fun enough that way. I got that one on sale for about 120 bucks, couldn't resist IT, either.

Thanks for the reply about the brass frame. I did catch a review on the Cabela's website about not being wise to fire stronger loads in a brass frame.

NT, I have the same gun in .36.
Loads of fun to shoot. Had to do quite a bit of filing on the front sight to raise POI.
My last four Piettas surpass my lone Uberti as far as quality.
This recent Cabela's sale is the work of the devil.
    Found myself with another 51.

Chich, that is correct on the light loads. I do not own a brass frame revolver, HOWEVER, I would not hesitate
to own one if the right deal came along. For accuracy you keep loads light anyhow. I doubt seriously a person could
wear one out with loads under 25gr, and usually shooting 18-20 gr.

I think next sale may find a 1860 to the collection, with fluted cylinder.

Forgot to add. Personally, loading these things are quick with a decent home made stand. Really haven't found the need
for spare cylinders. If you do remove the cylinder, wipe the cylinder pin off. You'll find for some reason these Remmys like
to gum up at the pin every 5-6 cylinders full. I've tried numerous lubes to correct this but to no avail, it's the nature of the beast.
