value of old colt detective special

I recently acquired a colt detective special snubby(for next to nothing). It is ingood condition. I found a website showing the differences in designs over the years and a list of serial numbers. Well I was suprised to find that apparently this thing was made around 1935. Can anyone give me an idea of what this firearm is worth? Thanks!

In great condition 98%, easily $600, in very good condition 90% easily $500, In good condition 85% $450....Smokewagon will look it up from his reference, however, my swag will be close.

Depends on whether it's a square butt or round butt (has nothing to do with BUTT's butt). Square butt is worth about 20% more.
    Round butt: 98% $1000; 95% $725; 90% $500; 80% $425
Must have original grips to reach these numbers - a lot have replacement grips.

Wish I could help, but my reference book is Smith & Wesson.

    I will say, it's a keeper!

The Colt Detective Special is on my wish list. I would add that one to my concealed carry
rotation in a heartbeat. I've had the pleasure of shooting one before and it is a fine
    revolver. I'm jealous!

Man I feel lucky now. I did a small job for a family member. He offered me 200 bucks or the colt. Well naturally...

CONGRATS, like the others I would agree its a keeper. But I really like a good wheel gun.
When in doubt check www.gunbroker.com do a search on the "colt detective special" right now there are 68 listed. I always look at the ones with actual bidders and what they are willing to bid. Being a pawn shop junkie its a handy guide.

The original grips were wood - those look like composite or rubber. Plastic grips became available in '47. Don't know off hand when rubber became available. Oh, well - it should be a great shooter.
