Now that I got the 1911ss out of the way. I am now looking towards getting a 9mm strictly for range use. I had a P89 that I traded in a few months ago, and am wondering if I made a mistake. She was a great range gun, but I felt that the grip was a bit large for my hand (not as large as the PT92 though). I am now looking for a replacement for the old Ruger. I have considered the new SR9, but I would like to take a wait and see approach with this new model. Also (as I mentioned in another post) I really don't like the stifness of the safety. I found it difficult to engage and disengage. If I ever do decide to get this one, it would have to be in the blued finish.
I had thought about the 27/7 pro since I totally am in love with the .45 cal. CZ 75b is nice, but the trigger is too far out for my index. Does anyone have any suggestions or should i just try to get my old P89 back (it is still in the shop and it looks at me saying "daddy, why did you leave me here?")?
Have you given any consideration to the Ruger P95?
I haven't checked the specs in comparison with the PT92 but the grip to me feels noticeably thinner. I'd recommend either one of those or buying your P89 back.
Funny thing about the PT92, I always wanted that gun. For the longest time I really wanted it. I never really had a chance to see one up close until this week. I never realized how big this 9mil really is in person. IMO, I think it is bigger than a P89, but the PT92 is a lot nice looking.
It is indeed a large 9mm, no question of it. In fact I can't conceive of many changes being made in order for Taurus and Beretta to offer the PT92s & 92FS respectively in .45 ACP.
And of course the obligatory P95 eye-candy to tempt you with Schlemer. ;D
Ha, ha, that is funny mr Taurus_9mm. Actually, I've been hoping over to the ruger forum reminding myself of how good my P89 actually was. Maybe I'm just a schmuk.
I am too. Well on www.rugerforum.net at the moment that is and not www.rugerforum.com . I generally have one browser window opened for taurusarmed while on rugerforum on another and alternate back and forth.
According to the site, the P89 has just been discontinued.
I went through a similar dilemma a few months ago looking for a 9mm. My short list was the Ruger SR9, Beretta PX4 Storm, CZ75, Magnum Research Baby Eagle and the Steyr M9-A1. All choices had to have a minimum of a 14 round capacity. In a rather un-scientific survey, I compared these autos on the following criteria. The list is in order of what I considered the most to least important based on my personal needs.
Ergonomics
Reliability
Accuracy
After Sale Support (Customer Service)
Curb Appeal (Yea, it has to look good!)
Price
Available Accessories
When the dust settled, I opted for the Steyr. Ergonomically it fit my hands the best while accuracy was on par with the other choices. Having researched all the choices at other forums, the crowd at Steyr bragged abut reliability and had nothing but glowing comments regarding the Customer Service people. The price was about the same as my other choices give or take a few dollars. As far as looks are concerned you either like it or hate it. The only major draw back is the lack of accessories. Just my two cents worth……..

Recently I had the chance to check out the Ruger SR9 p close and personal. After a few minutes I thought this might be next on my list. I think that I sometimes allow the "NEW" factor to trap me into a not needed purchase. I had the chance to feel the gun out again and the one major feature that kept bugging my was the safety. It is awkward (for me) and very stiff to engage. Personally, I find the 24/7 line to be my personal favorite in terms of ergonomics and smooth operation. If the Taurus didn't exsist I would have gone with the XD or M&P line.
Also, I did not want another polymer gun. For now, two is good. I may consider a 24/7 in 9mm or an XD9 one day. Today I'm content with the metal P89.
Took me about 3 mags before I was comfortable with the trapezoidal sights on the M9. Remember I said comfortable….I didn’t say I was hitting anything. As best as I can put it, it’s a little like looking at a 3D picture. To be honest, the court is still out on the sights. I may go with a HiViz set up somewhere down the road.

Darn do you put the POA on the top of front point, or behind it. Those are some kinda sights.
rainman,... pick up a nice GREEN Laser and hang it on that Rail... and you'll start using the same Hole on the target...<) You ruff dial it in for the yards your shooting, by sighting down your gun, and dialing in the GREEN DOT to sit right on top of the sight triangle, and fine tune for the target BULL from there... Vary fast and easy to tune in...<) I have a Laser on my 1911 .45

Had actually considered getting a laser. Not having done alot of research, what is the advantage of green over red? This is the bedside weapon so outside in bright daylight wouldn't be a big issue. Any thoughts on the matter?
rainman,... Lasers give you instant Target Acquisition (BG) without having to draw a Bead day or night ( hit the Bull (BG) shooting from the Hip)....<)
The very bright green beam is visible in midair (red is not). The wavelength is 532nm, which appears 20 times as bright as a standard red laser. Visible in broad daylight.
Oh man!! I want one now!! All I have to do is find out if the local city ordance will permit me to own one in my own home. That's right folks....Illegal in Chicago and what I've been told a class two mistomeanor in Springfield If I happen to light up the neighbors cat. I think you can own one as long as you don't use it. :???:
Mr Schlemer, I know you said strictly range use but have you done any research on the new Walther PPS? It is very slim. You can get 6-7-or 8 shot mags. It seems all reports of people who actually own it are very good. And from shooting a friends (How he gets these guns when no one else can is beyond me. He even gets them a couple months in advance of everyone.) not only is it an excellent shooter, it is an ideal size with the 6 or 7 shot mag for concealed carry with the lightest clothing on.
It sold me enough just playing with it for an afternoon that this will be my next purchase and I WILL be carrying it. It will replace my PPK/s for when you need to be very discreet. If you go to the Walther forum - www.waltherforums.com - you can find a lot of info on it.
I will say there is a special place in my heart for the Ruger P89. I had one for over 20 years until someone that we treated and raised like family broke into my house and stole it, along with about 5 grand of jewerly etc. ( NEVER leave a gun out to finish cleaning later.... Murphy's Law proven again.) I liked it so much I put money into it that most would consider foolish. It was one of the best shooting "workhorses" I have ever had.
That said, I still lean towards the new PPS overall. It may be worth a look to you.
THe green lasers are amazing too. (Yes, he has 2 of these that I know of. The benefits of having a career that you travel the world with.) I have never seen a laser show up so well during a sunny mid afternoon. Where a red would be all but invisible you can easily track the green. At night it would be like a beacon.
A range blaster in 9mm? look no further than the Beretta PX4 storm. Fantastic pistol! Amazingly accurate, 17+1(20+1 mags avail) VERY low re-coil, rotating barrel to help accuracy and CAKE to clean and oil.
I bought two a while back. The new one only had about 250-300 rds through it. I sold it as I kept the used one I bought and has about 2800 rds that I put through it. Never missed a beat, hits exactly where I am and digests every type of ammo.
Here's a pic and vid. They can be purchased used for around $500 and under. Well worth it!
This is when I had two(I just bought one in .45 so I have two again!)

That's really tough. They both are really good nines. At the moment I may want a slight edge to the PT92. For me it was more accurate than the P89. When I get mine back from Taurus I'll re-evaluate them side by side. I'll give an update, but It may be awhile.
