Smith and Wesson Airweight vs. Taurus 85UL vs. Rossi .38

I am thinking about getting a revolver for CC. I know this is a Taurus forum but does anyone have strong feelings one way or the other about the Smith vs. the Taurus vs. the Rossi? The Airweight is lighter and would be easier for me to conceal. I can purchase one at Academy for $440. The other option would be a Tauus 605 with .357 capability rather than being limited to the .38 sp +P.

Personally, I would go with the 605 for versatility. It's nice to practice with less expensive .38 specials and then have full stoked .357 magnums for defense when you need them. You just can't beat the 125 grain JHP in .357 for stopping power.

I have the Taurus 85UL. It's not as light as the S&W which is about 2 ounces lighter, but it's close enough for pocket carry. Isn't the Taurus still about $100 cheaper than the S&W?

I think the 605 is a good choice, 38's for range ammo and the awesome stopping power of a 357 magnum. You only have 5 shots, the ability to stop a man with one round can become really important. Just my two cents, you get what you pay for, LOL.

I'll go against the grain here and say get the Airweight. It's smaller and lighter for pocket carry. I have the 605 and it's great for belt carry but like a boat anchor for the pocket.

Re: Smith and Wesson Airweight vs. Taurus 85UL vs. Rossi .38

That is the way I am leaning. I really want a pocket gun and I think the 605 will just be too big to carry that way. From everything I have read the .38 +P round should have adequate stopoing power in a SD situation. I know it is not .357, but if you don't carry the gun what good is it sitting as a decoration in your safe.
I was at Academy today looking at the Smith so I asked the guy there if he knew anything about the new Ruger LCR. He said they were in the system and they should be getting them in stock at some point. I would also be interested in checking the LCR out as a pocket carry.

I have a M605 for CC. After practicing with the 605 in DA my only regret is not getting a CIA model, easier to carry, draw and pocket fire. I believe Taurus makes a UL CIA.
When I was looking 2 yrs ago, side by side, (did not shoot them) Taurus beat S$W hands down in quality, fit, finish, trigger, etc.. Was not impressed w/ S$W. YMMV

Get the one that YOU like and want, you'll use it more.

The Smith is nice, had one for awhile but it's just too damned light for me. I prefer my SS 85CH, probably around 15 years old and running flawlessly
