hi wildrice,
at the risk of asking a dumb question.... about that ejection port mod - will it not have any effect on the ejection of spent casings? or does it only make a difference on unchambering and ejecting live rounds, as you wrote?
PT145 Pro Gen III black and tan.
It is holding the Taurus ammo with the 185gr Barnes copper bullet.
Had a cracked frame out of the box, but Taurus replaced it.........eventually.
I like the gun. It shoots well and fortunately I have never had a failure of any kind.
I never had a problem with My PT145 ejecting spent cases. My port job allows for better clearance of unfired rounds. The bullet nose was hitting that corner. Old 1911's sometimes have high walled ejection ports than can dent ejected spent casings, and I have lowered a few 1911 ports for this reason. The Millennium Pro port is sufficiently low and wide to eject spent casings cleanly.Originally Posted by mdma42
However, tuning the extractor will effect ejection of spent casings. If the extractor has low or no tension on the case rim, then ejection can be erratic or stove piping can occur. If the extractor has too much tension, the casings my dribble out of the port or there can be feeding problems or failure to go into battery problems. The PT145 has a wide extractor claw that keeps pretty good control of the rim during extraction and ejection even if it has low tension. Mine ejected cases well even with the stock low tension. However, my stock gun had a problem when trying to clear unfired rounds, that turned out to be a combination of the port corner knocking the round off the low tension extractor. That is why my fix addressed both of these areas. My gun can now cycle unfired rounds (or snap caps) and ejects spent casings with machine-like consistency.
Are you having shell ejection problems?
I picked up two PT145 accessories. I installed a Hogue Handall Jr slip on grip that has a soft sticky texture, has a finger rest under the trigger guard, and has side palm swells that fill the hand better than the straight polymer sides. The rubber is grippy and could cause clothing to ride up when carried. The rubber is soft and smooth, so checkering abrasion is eliminated. One must concentrate and maintain a firm grip for best accuracy. With the bare slippery polymer, you must have a firm grip. With the Handall, you can hold the gun more loosely and not worry about dropping it, but for best accuracy, you must hold it as firmly as you would the bare grip. You must also hold high on the back strap, because if you grab it low, the grip will stick and the gun won't settle in the hand like the bare polymer. I had a couple of first shots hit a little low because of this.
The holster is a Galco WB298 inside the waist band designed for the Glock 29/30 and the Springfield XD 9/40 SubCompact. It fits the PT145 very well, has a well designed smooth J clip for the belt, soft suede leather, and a retaining strap with snap release. The retaining strap is a little lax. Because the PT145 has a slanted rear of the slide and no hammer, the strap could possible slide up over the rear sight. I am comfortable as it is, but do have ways to tighten it up if need be. The holster was a little too long at the end so I trimmed 15mm off of the open muzzle end of the holster. It fits my PT111 too.
NICE holster. Plain but very functional.
