    PT-140 Shooting Low

    I have owned a PT140 Mill Pro for a little over a year now. After putting hundreds of rounds through the gun I am still frustrated by the fact that this pistol consistently shoots around 5 to 6 inches low. I have had other shooters confirm this issue with my gun and have heard of one other Taurus owner with the same issue. javascript:void(0);
So I wanted to find out how many Taurus owners are seeing this and if you have any interesting insight as to why this is.

Im pretty sure its not the gun but rather your shooting technique. Even after a year if you arent correcting poor practice it wont improve your poa. I would recommend a ransom rest to determine the real problem. Most people experiance low and left for a righty and low and right for a lefty. I can say that using the pad of your finger and not the inner first knuckle can drastically improve your shots.

    Re: PT-140 Shooting Low

When I first got my PT111 it was low and left until I figured out the Heinie sights. Every other hand gun I had came with the usual 3 dot setup. Once I figured out to put the front sight on the point I wanted to hit I got closer.

Once I figured out how the sights worked I worked as for2nato suggested on my holding methods. Now I find I'm pretty consistent groups of about 4" to 2" depending on how much I've fired in a given session. I also started out shooting at about 10' and occasionally move it out to 21' to 25' and can keep all shots withing the silhouette at the longer distances. That I feel is about as good as it gets for me with this short a barrel pistol. I also find my original method of point and shot is also pretty close as well at the same distances.

    Re: PT-140 Shooting Low

Your poll is incomplete. You assume that all MilPro's POA/POI are off and that is not necessarily the case. You need a third choice: shoots to POA.

As has been posted many, many times, the vast majority of the problems shooter have with MilPro's sights are the result of (1) improper hold on the target and (2) improper grip. My 140 shoots exactly where I aim it and has right out of the box. But, then, virtually all my shooting over the years has been with a Center of Mass hold, no matter what kind of sights the guns have. True, it's easier with adjustable sights, but fixed sights can modified, if necessary to bring POA and POI together.

My Pt145 shoots to point of aim. Try resting the front of the frame on sand bags on a bench when you shoot to see where the gun is shooting when stabilized.

Most shooting low is the result of jerking the trigger, instead of a squeeeezzzee.

Yeahhhhh . . . had my 140 out for a session a few weeks ago, after not having fired it for a few months, and was shooting low for the first 4-5 magazines. Then slowed down my trigger pull quite a bit - you know, back to where the firing of the round is a surprise - not when you expected it to be - and was back on target, so to speak. Just tells me I need more dry fire practice.

Search "From The Horses Mouth" You'll find info on front site heights and shooting low. Maybe more than you want to read

    Re: PT-140 Shooting Low

I bought myself a 140 about 2 weeks ago... first couple of outings I was shooting low... (BTW I shoot in the back yard a couple times a week)

    What I did was
    1. research out the straight 8 sights and see what was right and what wasnt as far as sight picture.
    2. I had to get used to the size of the gun. Included in this was a realization that the smaller the gun the more it amplifies shooter error. The distance between the sights is so close relative to what I was shooting...it took some adjustments on my part and most importantly meticulous practice.
    3. My practice was not bang bang bang. It was more like aim, bang. calculate. Stop. Reset. Aim again while carefully noting my aim point and where my shots actually went. FYI a large piece of cardboard or some other kind of target works. I was going to my target after every shot marking the shot with spray paint.
After each good shot I tried to mimic it.
    4. I focused on my breating and trigger pull. I would exhale and about the same time my breath was let out the gun would go bang. I focused on pulling the trigger at the same rate as I was slowly exhaling.

Before it was all done (and of course I am still practicing as its only been 2 weeks since I bought it) I shot a full magazine....bang bang bang...all the way to 10 rounds non stop at a distance of 7 yards. 4 shots were in a bullseye ring of 2" without touching the sides of the ring. I had 1 flyer. The other 5 were in the space of about a 7" or 8" ring.

Of everything #4 from above was extremely effective. Trigger jerks with a small pistol are amplified a lot more than usual, especially down range at the end of your bullet trajectory. A tiny difference on the angle of aim at 7 yards was putting my rounds off target by more than 1 foot.
