NEW MILL PRO PT140 MAKES THE GRADE

Well I got a chance to put 100 rounds or so thru my new PT140 and I must say I am impressed,I have read a lot of negative posts on the firearms dropping mags and so forth,Well I cant claim any of that happened today,I dont really care for the Heinie straight 8 sights so I ordered a set of Williams Firesights, but other than that the gun sped thru $50 bucks in ammo pretty quickly and the accuracy is really pretty decent, although the trigger is quite a bit different than my Kimber but its quite respectable. All in all I really like the gun and its a keeper.I am even going to alternate carry between my Kimber and the Taurus.

Are you going to install the Williams Firesights yourself? I would love to change out my Str8 8s myself but I think I read that the factory sights are installed with a Locktite type substance and I cannot even get the Allen mounting screw to budge with my set of wrenches and don't want to break anything off. I would love the chance to change out my sights and save myself the cost and time of a smitty . . . .Do I just need to get a stronger A wrench and push??

take some acetone on oqtip and dap it in the set screw hole if its that tight. i didnt have any problems loosing the set screws on my pt140 yeah they are tight but hold the allen wrench low and give it some back it will come loose mine made an audible snap. i work with surveying instruments and deal with these types of set screws all the time. as long as your turning it the right way and using a good allen key it shouldnt hurt anything to give it a good turn.

I already removed both sights,If you have a good set of allen wrenches it should not be too bad.Mine (screws)were not that tight, they did have some loctite type substance on the screws but I dont think they use the high strength, once the screws were out the sights themselves just pushed out,the rears are fairly loose, the front I just used a plastic toothbrush handle and tapped on it and the fronts slid out.now hopefully when the new sights get here they will be as easy to put in.

Try heating the screw with a hair dryer or a soldering iron and that should loosen the Loctite enough for you to turn the screw easily with an Allen wrench.

I agree with the soldering iron use the craft kind it looks like a big pencil hold it on the screw/bolt /whatever has red loctite on it and it will come loose.

Re: NEW MILL PRO PT140 MAKES THE GRADE

OK, after another weekend at the range, I decided I'd had it trying to figure out how best to sight with the Str8 8s. I, too ordered a set of the Firesights and will take the plunge and at least do something to try to correct - not necessarily how I shoot (I'm getting better with each shooting session despite the dreaded 8s) -but the overall look of the gun!

Yeh,I finally received my firesights last night from the UPS man, they slid right into the dovetails with no more than thumb pressure, put a little Loctite purple on the threads of the set screws and away we go.Now tomorrow I will try to do a little shooting and see how well the sight picture works. The sights really do improve ease of use, they are really quite bright in the right light.
