So it don't go bang whle you think it is empty!  Just an added safety step that should always be followed.  It is amazing how many people are killed each year with unloaded guns and if you remove the magazine before pulling the slide back it lessens the possiblility of a additional round being chambered.

    Re: question on dissasembly

i own a PT 145 3rd gen. I find it easier to take the pin out after turning if i let the slide go forward. It only goes forward couple of mm's till it stops on the turned takedown pin's corner. Then i lock the slide back again and the pin pulls out easily without using foriegn objects.

    Re: question on dissasembly

Good posts. I know on my new PT111 Pro that pin is VERY hard to pull. Even after a dozen times I still need to use something for leverage and it has a few nicks in that area now due to that. So far that is my complaint about it, so can live with that. I will have to try n1000's technique to see if that helps.

To avoid marring the finish I use a wooden chopstick that I chiseled the fatter end to get under and force the pin out, it works fast and I can apply pressure without worrying about slipping and gouging the finish.

    Re: question on dissasembly

Thanks, that's a good idea. I tried the idea mentioned yesterday and I still couldn't pull it out by hand. I keep my fingernails trimmed short so I have nothing to grab with so prying it out has been my only option.
