    Good morning Russ,
I got my new calipers yesterday. They are a composit material made by Pittsburg. 6" digital that reads in inches or MM. It can read inside or outside measurements and has a zero button. It sure gives me more confidence for OAL when I'm reloading.
Now all I'm waiting for is the electronic pocket scale.
Hope your sunday is going well.

They are great. I measured the 38 special shells for OAL and was right on. if you remember I used the OAL of the commercial cartridge. They were 1.2, mine were 1.4. I adjusted the ones I made to 1.2 but I don't think that would have made a difference with the revolver.

I have loaded 10 cases with 5.3 gr. of IMR 7625 and 10 rounds with 4.5 gr. of IMR 700 X. All with the 230 fmj's you sent.
Priming by hand is not a problem. I thought there would be more to it. I kept my hands clean of any oil and don't think I contaminated any of them.
Ha. My grandson came in and interupted my concentration. I loaded one without a primer and bent one of my cases as I pressed the bullet into the case. I just put them aside until I get a bullet puller and then I will reload them. I kept records of the loads for when I get to the range. I probably won't get to shoot till after Christmas.
If you're still in the mood to "dump" your dies for 38/357 caliber, I will still buy them from you. I'd like to load some of these cast boolits you sent. Just let me know. By the way I mailed twenty dollars to you to help on the shipping cost you incurred so far.
I hope you know how much I appreciate all your help thus far.
Good shooting with ypur new 30-30 and 22 rifles.

    Hey Russ
I understand from one of your posts you may be interested in downsizing your collection. As I said before I may be looking for a RIA 1911. Also a Bersa Thunder 380. You don't have one of those lying around do you?
I probably can't afford the 1911 but maybe the Bersa thunder 380.
Seeing as how I live in CA, everything has to legaly go through an FFL dealer. Or maybe I could meet you face to face next time you're in Idaho. HA.
One oclock AM here, can;t sleep tonight.
Might be a perfect time to try a little hotter load with 10 more rounds of 230 grain FMJ. Nothing too hot. I think the lee powder load might be a little lite. I will try the 10 +1 powder drop and average to see where I'm really at. Like I said I have to wait til next week to shoot. will have to keep good records. See? Some of what your teaching me has rubbed off.
I ordered the calipers from Cabellas should be here any time now.
    Good shooting to you.

While reading through one of the reloading books I came accross some data that specified lead bullets and some specified cast bullets.
Dumb question again. What is the difference? Also the boolits you sent me say 358311, .358, Bear lube, 50/50 alloy and WW lead, 158 RN (Bear lube).
When looking at the book for loading these what bullet should I look for? Or am I not looking in the right place. At the moment I'm looking at the Hodgdon Basic Reloader's Manual. i don't have that powder yet but I'm just trying to famiarize with other powders.

    Russ,
    I got the box today!!
    WOW
    I love that Lee Book.
Question. Do the .358 booliots go for 38 or 357 or both? Also the speer says 38 caliber and also .357 jacketed. Are these for 357 or 38 special?
Wow. Thank you this is much more than I expected. Boolits AND brass. Wow.
I am going to load some 45 tonight. I'll send pics of my first reloads.
By thye way. Is it OK to touch the primers with my hands? I read it may contaminate them.

Take a look at my latest post. It shows pics of my set up.
I bought 100 CCI -300 LP pistol primers today for about $5.00 to day at BPShop. I noticed some primers had different numbers on the labels. eg. 300 or 500, etc.
    What should I look for?
Also in the manual it shows Win. primers with 230 gr.. does it matter what brand primer I use?
Maybe I'll look in the book again to see if it covers this.
    WOW....Research....what comes next?

I found myself near Lonetree, that is SW of Fort Bridger on a mule dear hunt. Damned if I know where I lost that box of 264 Win Mags but I wish I would have brought along my .30-06. I ended up driving all the way back to Green River. Oh by the way the store in Lone Tree Pop 3, did have: 12 gauge, .22 rimfire, .30-30, .30-06, 9mm, .38 special .45acp, they may of even had an old dusty box of .44-40, but I feel wildcats and oddballs are best for the range near home. If you only have a couple of primary firearms get ones that use popular ammo, My thought is: you never know when you will need ammo and its pretty tough to tote around a reloading bench

Yes I'll be glad to load the primers by hand for now. I think it's a good idea to learn more about my loader before adding more to the equasion.
I'm trying to find a small table or maybe a TV tray so I can load in the second bedroom. The wife isn't too keen on having a loading bench in the living room. Go figure. Ha.
Couldn't get out to buy powder today. Down with a cold. YUK!

I received the reloading manual today. It's great! Thank you.
Also, the Lee Deluxe Loader came in today! I'm really excited. I guess I was mistaken about the Lee safety Prime primer coming with this kit. That was one of the reasons I ordered this particular loader. But as the instructions say, I can feed the primers by hand. Oh well, it does come with the powder dispenser and primer pocket cleaner. Also a safety powder scale.
    Time to assemble this baby.
I believe I remember you saying you had the safety prime primer feeder. If you still want to sell it let me know.
I'll let you mnow how everything turns out. I am going to Bass Pro Shop tomorrow to pick up primers and powder.

    Hi Russ.
My Lee Loader is supposed to arrive tomorrow.
Can You tell me what kind or brand of powder and primers is best for loading my 45 acp brass? Also I want to load .357 and .38 special. Do I need different primers or powder?
The Loader will come with instructions but I trust your judgement best.
I went to Bass Pro Shop and they have a large selection. I asked several people there about powder and they all seemed to have different opinions.
I inspected all the brass you sent me and all of the primer holes look to be the same size. So I really don't know what size I have. Large or small.

I picked up a few cases that seem to be made of thin aluminum. Are these reloadable?
Also some are bright silver. Nickle plated? Reloadable?

I'm anxious to hear from you as I want to get started right away.
I have not bought a reloading book yet as I am waiting for payday.

I hope Lee and the book you will be sending will have enough information to at least start reloading.
