Hello all. Great info on this site for a newbie like me. My wife and I have a 22 pistol and rifle, been to the range a few times. We both have taken a CCW class and applied for CPL. Hopefully CPL will ariive in a couple of months. Trying to decide on what to buy and carry, this website will be alot of help. I seem to be drawn towards a Taurus revolver, but with my very limited knowledge, not sure of anything yet.
For her a 9 mill or any revolver, you I would say a .45 Jeff cooper's Fighting man caliber. It will knock them down and keep them down. Also its a matter of pride. you meet up with some friends and they say Yeah I carry this 380 and the other says i carry this nine and you say I carry this 45 giant killer and the pecking order has been made my friend. On a real note its my first and only choice and has worked for me, I carried a nine in the service and have used it and have seen the amount of rounds required to get adequate results. for a woman it is a great multi round hand gun for you get the .45 its a great single round gun.
You should be able to find a Taurus pistol or revolver to fit your need and style. Yes there are more expensive guns on the market, but Taurus generally preforms just as well and are less expensive. You can use the money you save to buy ammo to shoot doing what you bought a firearm for.
If you are near Grand Rapids go to Silver Bullet Gun Shop. They have an indoor range and LOTS of different guns that they will let you shoot untill you find THE ONE. Good Luck, and welcome from the neighbor to the west
