    New from Cincinnati

Hi all. At the ripe old age of 58, I am looking to purchase my first pistol. Have decided on 9mm and am looking at a pt 909 at a local dealer. He has it both in blue and ss. Cost approx $400. After completing the CCW course, I will probably only carry on the rare occasion. Is the 909 a good choice or should I opt for a current production model?Have only shot a S&W sigma so far. It was ok but I really like the feel of the 909. A buddy from work has lent me his Beretta 92fs which I will try tonight at the local range. Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome aboard from the KY, Horse Country!!

Be sure to check out the Sticky's in each section, and FAQ !!! As to which gun, that is something only you can decide. Price wise, $400 gives you several options. If you like metal guns, or polymar they are available in that price range is several models of 9 mm.

    Welcome from Northern Illinois!

Congrats on the decision to learn self-defense and conceal carry with a pistol. I've not fired one, but I am sure that someone who owns one will be along soon. If at all possible, I would try to find one to rent or borrow to get my impression of the recoil and personal accuracy with the model. Renting one might be next to impossible as it is not a typical range pistol. Practice often and maybe consider joining a shooting club (USPSA or IDPA) to gain more familiarity with your new pistol. (and don't forget to post a picture as we love to see gun photos)

    Welcome from North Texas!

If you end up liking the Beretta tonight, check out the Taurus PT92 it is the same as the Beretta with a few small differences, Taurus actually bought the Baretta factory in Sao Paulo Brazil in the early '80's. The difference I really like is that the Taurus has the safety on the frame not the slide.
