    Wanted: Opinions

I'm going to start reloading .223 rounds. I want to load them for hunting Coyote and as a dual purpose home defense round. I was thinking of using 40 gr. soft point bullets that Midway sells (about $0.15/round).

    1) I live in typical mid-West neighborhood, would this type of .223 round being pushed at 3500 fps have much energy after going through a wall? I'm concerned about missed shots hitting people and property beyond my home.

    2) Would it work well as a defensive round?

    3) Would it be a good hunting round for Coyotes? I've only used 55 gr. hollow points previously.

    4) Do you have an ideal round suggestion for either or both applications?

I wouldn't suppose it'd have much penetration past a wall, but I'm willing to bet someone on here can just chuck up a ballistics table off the top of their head to let both of us know for sure. P.S., are these coyotes IN your midwestern neighborhood?

I hear them when just outside the city limits at night. I'm going to try to get some cattle ranchers or farm owners to let me hunt on their property. Unfortunately, Iowa is not like Arizona where I could walk out my front door and go hunting.

I got some co-workers that are shopping AR's to go coyote hunting , They seem to have an idea where to go. I'll ask where they plan on hunting as were in the same area.
