I still have a few good years left, walk about 2 miles a day, but sometimes this crosses my mind.
At some point in your life, you may feel like making it to the bathroom at 3 am, is more important than making it to the range for some shooting.
Your body just wears out and gets tired from simple things you do everyday.
I am starting to get aches and pains, and wonder when I will not be able to do, what I am doing now.
I don't have anyone I care to leave my stuff to, and don't want to die and have the courts decide whom to give it to, so selling it is my only option. I could live a couple years or more on what I could sell everything for, and in retirement, an extra bottle of Geritol or bingo money would come in handy.
I realize things can fall apart, and I have a place to go to, but when your to old to be a real life Rambo and live in the woods, defending your final place of security is again, your only option.
I will always have a rifle, pistol and shotgun, but enough to equip a small army is a bit to much to keep in such circumstances.
Was just wondering if any of the older people here have the same thoughts.
Slide my bed next to the window and leave me a few mags.
Its better to burn out than fade away.
I don't know if will matter if something like that happens. I am sure if I have
the energy to pull the trigger then I can still fight.

I'm sure a rifle, a handgun and a shotgun is plenty and if you need more than a couple of hundred rounds for any of them, then you are in deep stuff. My youngest son will inherit all my guns, in fact I'm sure by the time I hit 75 or so, he will have everything except a 20 guage pump and a couple of handguns anyhow, well except three handguns.
Going out like old Jim Bowie wouldn't be all that bad....if I can't die in my sleep!
Maybe I can solve two problems at the same time.....give bayonets to illegal Mexicans, tell them to run into a room and stab an old fart to death. I just wouldn't tell them that the old fart on his death bed had a 1911 and a Model 19 357 mag. Sure wouldn't run out of illegals. I wonder what an old fart would pay to go out in a blaze of Glory? Might make him feel so good he would live another 10.

im a fairly young pup compared to you old farts.
i came to the same realization.
i mostly have handguns the other day i was wondering what i would do with them if the SHTF ever happen.. know what i came up with? most would either be hauled around weighting me down.. or i'd ditch all but a couple.
it was at that point i realized i had enough handguns for now what i really need is a couple good long guns.
how much of this crap can i take with me? not much, there are a ton of good guns out there but i can't possibly shoot / carry / or wear them all out in a life time.
having 30 guns is kinda overkill for personal use.
but then again collecting guns is just like collecting anything else.. someone with 1 or 2 guns is'nt really a collect are they? someone with 1 or 2 cars is'nt really a collector of car's neither.
i think after a get a few good long guns it's gonna be accessories, mags, ammo to stock up on.
the ammo almost never goes bad and you can never have enough of it.
If you can't shoot well, shoot often.
The reason you have 30 guns is because you're bound to have an unprepared friend, neighbor, relative, etc that's gonna need one. Or maybe you'll have 29 of them.
Besides...I don't have ALL my guns for SHTF. Only a select few have that particular purpose. Some have other specific purposes...concealed carry, home defense, just because they look cool, whatever.
Gotta be honest...might not take the PT145 if SHTF. But I sure carry the hell out of it when I'm running errands.

ya i thought about that too.. ya know what i decided? screw'em..
i'd rather spend my money stocking up for my needs rather then trying to outfit everyone i know.
i came to the conclusion it's only gonna spread my resources thin.
anyway if i have to take off im not gonna carry my entire collection around.
If you can't shoot well, shoot often.
I have 13 guns. I have assorted amounts of ammo and am always buying more. If Shtf then I'll will arm my neighbors and friends. Because 1 guy against 30 gang members doesnt stand a very good chance. But 13 guys against 30 gang members could fair pretty well. Scumbags will rome in groups because thats what predators do.
Basicly, I just enjoy guns. I enjoy mechanical things that go bang. I enjoy the amount of engineering that goes into them. Some have a really nice melding of different materials that go into them, a blending of colors and textures. Some have beauty, others machismo, the vintage guns are rife with history and adventure. A certain amount of enjoyment is derived from knowing you can project power down range. Now, if I could just figure out how to get my hands on a 155 mm Howitzer and be able to afford the ammo, life would be great.![]()

When the election of 2008 nudged me into buying firearms, it also nudged my son into doing the same. Both of us - and without prior discussion - came to the conclusion that S would HTF sooner rather than later.
In the ensuing months, we talked a bit about bugout plans - where the family should meet, what to take along, where to go.
Then, a year after the election, I was felled by a heart attack.
Plans change. I know that my trying to live in the wild in a 'Red Dawn' scenario would only put a burden on the rest of my family.
If at all possible, I'll deliver my extra guns to my son and daughter, keeping only enough for myself to fight a rear-guard action.
I may be old, but I ain't going down easy.
1. Rest easy, friends: There are no experienced suicide bombers.
2. It is difficult to be a sniper when your only weapon is a sword.
SHTF scenarios are usually good day dream fodder for me, but the ownership of firearms is really just for my own personal enjoyment more than anything else. Just an excuse to be out of doors and not look like a flaming nature lover, although I do enjoy nature.
They are a way for my sons and grandsons to enjoy being out and fellowshiping with one another. We enjoy a few hours at the range, or busting birds in a pasture somewhere.
There are deer hunts where I pass up shots, but look forward to seeing the boys back at camp or the ranch house to see how they have done.
I enjoy being with my dogs, and watching them do their best to please me by pointing and retrieving.
When my boys were younger and on their first deer hunt and I accompanied them, I enjoyed seeing them get their first case of Buck Fever.
There is indeed no better way to bond with family than hunting and fishing and it makes having ideas for birthdays and Christmas very easy.
