    My New Baby Computer

I just got this new Asus 901 netbook Tuesday. As soon as I get the bugs worked out, I've already installed a 2g's of memory, I think it will be a keeper. This is the first computer I've owned with a solid state drive.
My model 85ul looks good next to it!

I've got one of Asus' n10 netbooks. Great little machine, I've been thinking about upgrading to one of the SSDs because I heard they are super fast. Grats on your new machine.

Solid State drives are too early in their tech right now to have any decent size and right now, they only have what is called 'burst speeds.'

You'll get ungodly speed every now and then, but the maintained speed is only marginally faster than a spinning hard drive.

Even if yours is way faster and is an exception to the rule right now... I could never go with the little amount of capacity they boast at the moment - especially when you can buy a 1 TB (1,000 GB) spinning hard drive for $90 brand new.

It came with a 20g drive which (in my opinion) is enough for what it is, a very portable computer. But that can be upgraded if need be. The solid state drive is shock proof, meaning I can toss it around to some extent, like a cell phone, something that can not be done with a spinning platter drive.
What I really like is the battery life. The manufacturer claims 7.8 hours, but I get a little over 5 hours. Kind of like the posted mpg on new cars.

You can get a new mechanical 1 terabyte drive for $75, next year they will be $50. Moore's law
