Above all, which is more reliable revolvers or pistols?

Hello friends! I want to hear what is all your thoughts about this discussion between the reliability with revolvers and pistols. For instance, does each design in the revolver, pistol make each less prone to failure? Or each worse? thanks for chiming in.

Depends upon how you take care of them, I suspect. If you don't fire them, the mag springs get tired on semis, but revolvers require cleaning.

Generally, the revolvers are more reliable as the revolver is not dependant on the force of the round being discharged to operate the weapon. Automatics have improved over the years and have a higher rate of reliability than previously considered. All in all, most shooters look at the revolver as still being the most reliable. I'll give the edge to the revolvers, although I do have a couple of semi-autos that have been amazingly reliable. Both semis and revolvers, are capable of failure, but a revolver is of a simpler design. My opinion.

+1, simply due to simplicity of design, I think revolvers will always be slightlly more reliable than auto's will. However the difference between them has become so marginal at this point that I think it's pretty much irrelevent as far as broad catagories go. Does it really matter to you if your gun is 99.998% compared to 99.9985% reliable?

Dariushom, less to go wrong when a revolver is fired but I know you had some problems with that 357 of yours. (Did we ever figure out if it was camping sand? LOL) I have a revolver I had not fired for over 30 years and when I decided to carry again I took it to the range along with my new 9mm and the old revolver fired flawlessly. The new semi had a couple hiccups. After a trip to S&W (TAURUS AIN'T THE ONLY MANUFACTURER WITH A OPPS ONCE IN A WHILE) it's fired over 1000 flawless rounds and trust it as my daily carry.

yep... revolvers I believe have the edge in reliability.
    My grandma's 1906 32 H&R still shoots great.
though my autos have not been any less reliable.

Re: Above all, which is more reliable revolvers or pistols?

After talking with several LEO's about what kind of weapon to carry, they all recommended hands down to carry a revolver because they always go bang. All of their backup weapons are revolvers. I will admit though, my PT1911 is a lot more fun to shoot.

Revolvers by design, should be more reliable due to having fewer moving parts. I'll take a pistol thank you.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms, disarm only those who are neither inclined, nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
