    gun collecting

I'm 33 and I didn't even own a handgun until I bought my first on 11-0-08. Well, a month later and I've got three. I bought a taurus revolver model 608, then a bought a 24/7 pro, and i just bought a M&P 9mm. So, I've got $1400 dollars in guns just like that. I'm very frugal and I'm not one of those People that is any debt, and I have quite a bit of savings. So, It's not like I'm going to put myself in the poor house buying guns. But, I just want more guns. I know that a person really only needs 2 good guns, but the idea of collecting guns really appeals to me. I see some of you guys have like 15 handguns and I'm envious. I know some of you have Sigs and Kimbers, while other seem to have every model of gun made by Taurus. I just wondered how you got into it and how you decide on what to get.

My dad was a collector, but I'm a shooter, and I chose my collection based on practicality. Oh yeah, and I'm 33 too.

My father was a police officer in NYC before I was born so I've had the exposure since I can remember. MY first handgun was a S&W Model 10 in 1985 when I joined the force.

It just happens. You get the first one and you want a different one, and another different one. I'm not really a collector, but I have my fair share. None particularly valuable, but I like 'em all. I do make my purchases looking for shooters that fit what I'm wanting at the moment.

I grew up shooting and hunting with my dad's and grandpa's guns. As a young adult, I didn't have any real cash and bought a simple Crosman pellet gun. Then as soon as I had a little more cash, I bought my 1st rifle at age 28 back in '92. My particular thing is to try and have a firearm of all types. That way I can theoretically pick up any firearm and generally know how to operate it without much trouble. I will admit I have no interest in black powder, though.

Try some blackpowder cartridges, chicharrones. You may add to your interests.

I buy mine for practicality as well ,usually I scout the used gun section at the local gun store looking for deals or something that just looks good .Another thing is go to estate sales ,my buddy ran across some great deals on guns going to estate sales

One of my downfalls is also buying a gun due to its looks. One reason I
bought the 917CS was its looks. Turned out to be a good operator as
well as good lookin but that is not always the case when buying on looks.

Practicallity means a lot to me as well. I'm just a blue collar guy so I'm not talking about actual "collecting" collecting. Antiques or really expensive handguns arent an interest to me at all. I have my two polymer framed striker fired pistols now, and I'd like to get an all metal pistol like the PT 92 that has a hammer as my next gun.

I have a PT-92, and I highly recommend it! It is perhaps the best buy based on value in the industry! At least in my opinion. It is a great weapon based on a proven design, holds up well, and is a heck of a lot cheaper than the original Beretta 92 FS . Also I just got the PT-1911, and love it too. Great weapon design at a very affordable price! I will always look to Taurus first before buying something. You will love the SA/DA capability of the PT-92. The PT-1911 is single Action, but the PT-92 is single action/double action.
