Only One Gun if SHTF

You find yourself in a SHTF situation, things are in absolute KAOS, you will be doing some traveling, maybe even have to abandon your vehicle and hoof it sixty to 100 miles. You can only take one firearm, you will possibly meet armed bad guys, carry enough other supplies to get by. What gun, pistol, rifle, shotgun would you carry, and why. This does not have to be a firearm you currently own. Concealability isn't an issue with your firearm....I'll give my answer and why in a couple of days.

Jake, first things first! If I am 60 to 100 miles away from home, I probably would not make it back.
But, when I am away from home that far, I carry 3 guns, and 130 rd of ammo (mostly 9mm as my main gun and bug are both 9mm).
Now if I was home and had to go 60 to 100 miles to get to the wife, it is another story. I would make it to her, but probably on horseback, with the same three guns, but a saddlebag on a spare horse with a heck of a lot of ammo, up to and including 45 colt for the JUDGE.
I am probably unique in the fact that I do not have any potent long guns in the arsenal.
We do have an sks, and an old 308 that I do not even know the model of, but they would not be my choice of weapons.

A 9mm. It's such a common and popular caliber that chances are anyone attacking will also be bringing you some ammo. That, or a 12 gauge shotgun.

For a single gun SGTF scenario, I'd have to say one of the 9mm Carbines. Enough muzzle velocity to pick off targets a distance away, hi cap mags, accurate enough for some hunting and decent stopping power on humans. Not only that but with 9mm ammo you can carry alot of it without weighing you down too severelly. Second to that I'd go with my mossy 12ga pump and a variety of shells for it (ranging from bird shot for hunting to 00 buck for the bad people to 1oz slugs if I need to stop a car).

hmm... If concealability is a factor I’d go with a handgun of course… something lightweight a polymer 9mm - M&P most likely)

If not, probably a light copmact AR-15, AK-47 or Cx4 Beretta.

If I had to abandon my vehicle and walk 60 to 100 miles, I would need only a small .22 handgun. One shot to the temple and my problems would be over.

Short of that scenario, my ONE GUN choice for when the balloon goes up would be a .12 guage or 20 guage pump. I naturally would also want Bully on my hip. He wouldn't take up much room and would be real quiet unless somebody woke him up.

O'kay, one more try, you won't necessarily be traveling from your home, and a distance of 60-100 miles is a distance you may have to walk, the horse would be great, but for some reason the kick starter won't work on horses anymore, and it doesn't have to be a gun you currently own. And the rule is, only one gun. If your health doen't permit you to walk that far, pretend for a moment it is good enough you could. Also remember the bad guys you meet may be armed.

Jake you finally figured it out. We are older than dirt. We do not travel with only one gun. And there are alternates to walking. I was having fun with you and everyone else in my first post.

Limit to one gun only! It will still be a 9mm PT111, with my basic load of 5 mags, and 65 rds. Not all mags are carried concealed, but available when I am out in a belt pouch that can be carried a long way.

I currently do not pack a bug out bag! But if things start going down hill, I would pack one with MRE, water supply, space blanket or wool blanket. I already carry fire starting stuff, (I smoke). We do have first aid kits in most vehicles if were using them.

Can I pack an extra barrel for the shotgun?

Pump (12 or 20) with 20 inch barrel and rifle sights and a 26-inch vent rib for birds.

200 rounds mixed 50 slugs, 75 buckshot, 25 bird shot.
