I have a set of 5 22LR adapters for my Judge and they work fine. BUT YOU -CANT-
USE A BARREL ADAPTER!!!! The Judge is centerfire and 22's are rimfires - the 22LR
adapter has to be bored OFF CENTER for the firing pin to hit the rim.

I did talk " shotgunadapter " in LeRoy Mi. (check out his ebay ads) into making me a
set of 5 - 22 Hornet adapters and they are neat!!!! With 22 Hornets being centerfire
you can use a barrel adapter. And I had him make them the FULL length of my cyl.
not 2 1/2. If you have a 3" judge, mike it and ask for its full length.

Check out the various adapters in the videos on shotgunadapters website (shooting
at roughly 30 yards he tells me) . . Home

True it wont be a target pistol but will make less expensive fun shooting and for me
shooting rats or snakes in the barn, the judge with hornet buckshot loads is easier
than having to carry a 410 shotgun or shooting a full size 410 in the judge. LOL

I should have mentioned shotgunadapter has a MUCH MORE reasonable price for his
adapters than several others on ebay and he was the only one willing to consider
adding my 22 Hornets to his inventory and making them for me. From two others I
got only static and one simply totally ignored my emails!!

All of the ones I mentioned are offset to allow a rim fire .22 to be fires in the judge.

Over the years there have been a lot of different adapters made for different guns. A company made them for Contenders to shoot 22 rimfire ammo in centerfire 22 barrels that worked well. The 410 adapters in single and double barrels worked well. There have also been rifled handgun cartridge inserts made for single and double barrel shotguns that work well when made right. A insert for the Judge that is rifled could work as well. The good inserts that work really well usually are not cheap because they start out as a rifled steel blank and are machines to "Fit" a given chamber. O rings are usually used to help seal and center the front or the insert. Being one of those nuts that has built wildcats over the years and having a love for Contenders, inserts have also been played with. Have not tried them in a Judge, but could see a good one working with no problem.

Here is a U-Tube of 'shotgunadapter' shooting various ones of the adapters.
Shotgun Adapter: shoot a 20 gauge shell in a 12 gauge shotgun - YouTube
    in an NEF Pardner 12ga.

Those adapters are the same length as you would get for a judge. And he tells
me the distance is about 60 feet. You may not locate the can till he hits it with
the 410 (or go back and rewatch). Did you notice how easily the cases slide out
    of the adapters?
The judge isnt a target pistol to begin with. Even without rifling the accuracy is
good enuf for Govt work. And besides just plinking, could help a younger person
get used to your judge before you hand them 45/410 ammo. LOL

Normally he makes them 2.5" for a 2-1/2" Judge. But ask him to make them
2.585 (1/64th short). If you have a 3" Judge do the same, ask for 1/64th
less than the full cyl length.

PS I also load some 410 full length brass and the plastic cups are perfect for
a pair of 115gr HP 357/9mm slugs. Gee dad no ballistic markings. ;-)

BTW heres a photobucket link. Shows those adaoters.

Would the 22 hornet be a better round that a .22 lr for plinking or training a youth to fire pistol?

Im not an expert but let me give my opinion.

Frankly I would say yes but I -am- a bit biased. The Hornet has enuf kick to make an
impression where the LR wont. Not enuf to scare a young shooter off - much less kick
than either the 45or410 (in the judge) but sufficient to acquaint and prepare them with
    some recoil and noise.

Some depends on what you know/hope the young shooter will later want to do.

    As example:
I have a $25 22 revolver with target sights that will shoot <6" group at 70 yards
OFFHAND. I have a scoped Ruger MKII that will put every shot thru a quarter sized
hole at 100 yds. TO me those are achievements that GREATLY encouraged me to
keep getting better at shooting. I still challenge myself to do better and better.

The judge isnt a target type weapon and shots that miss could be discouraging to
someone just starting out. they would feel it was them, not realizing it was their tool
    that let them down. LOL

SO if you hope to get your shooter interested in target shhooting, get a good 22LR
revolver or pistol and shoot targets at greater and greater distances. Have them
practice balancing the pull with the trigger finger against rhe push of the heel of the
hand to prevent pulling the muzzle off target when the trigger is pulled. (thats the
key to 70+yd shots.) It took me years and MANY bricks of 22 to get it down pat.

However if you simply want them to learn the Judge for defense, you need them to get
used to some recoil (and noise) without flinching. (of course the same practice trigger
and heeling counts in defense also).

For me the Hornet serves a better than LR purpose for small varmints and snakes and I
reload my own so it is cheaper plinking than LR even. I dont reload to Hornet specs I
do the old 22WCF black powder loads pushing 32gr bullets.

Hope this gives you things to think about and helps you make the right choice for
    your young shooter. Good luck.
