Re: The Judge & DDupleks 410 Slugs

I was at ammunitiontogo.com just this morning and they had it still listed, and with them if its listed "THEY HAVE IT"
i didn't pay much attention to it as i don't do the Judge!
so not sure of the price but it specifically listed as designed for the judge if i remember correctly.

Using slugs in the Judge is a waste, they are much less powerful than the .45 Colt.

may not be as powerful as 45llc but look at the ripped up hole it would make

HMM! by more powerful do you mean the slugs are slower?
I am guessing but would think from an energy standpoint at close range they would be superior to the 45 LC.
now 40-50 yards away then i think the 45 LC would take the advantage, and as i say just guessing here.

No, I mean the slugs are MUCH lighter, .410 slugs only weigh about 90-100 grains versus the typical 200-250 grain range of the .45 Colt.
As far as velocity, the slugs might do 1200 fps from a 3" barrel, a 200 grain .45 Colt less than that, but not enough to make up for the overwhelming difference in weight.
    Also 410 slugs are .39-.40 caliber.......out of a .45 cal barrel......what's accuracy like I wonder?

I think you are crediting the slug with too much velocity. Those box quotes are usually for a 28" barrel. I suspect out of the Judge we are probably seeing 1,000 fps, or less. My Hornady 225 grain flextips are getting over 900 fps, and so are my Speer 250 grain Gold Dots. Those Flextips are good, but you can feel the extra weight of the Gold Dots loaded in the Judge.

Yep you got to compare what the factory is shooting the rounds out of for a accutate comparison, and i am not argueing as i haven't got a clue but seems reasonable thet the slug would be bit more potent!
anyway on a side note I noticed that Wally World here has the new Winchester designed 410 loading for the Judge (Is it the PDX1?) and other clones) in stock.

Out of a long barrel (28"?? That's super long BTW) .410 slugs are supposed to do about 1800 fps.
I've seen chronograph figures published from 3" Judges at 1100-1200fps.

But regardless, .410 slugs are teh suuuck from a 3" barrel compared to what the .45 Colt will do.

    Exactly.

And as you stated in a previous post, they are not as accurate as 45 Colt from the Judge either.

The .410 slugs I've fired from my Judge tumbled out the barrel and downrange fairly far off from my point of aim. They actually "keyholed" the target.

I want a projectile that will tumble once it enters its target....not before.

Re: The Judge & DDupleks 410 Slugs

Went to the range today and ran the indoor target out to 25 yards (max range) with a 50' Silhouette with 3.5" red circle center of mass. Loaded up the Judge with Federal's PD Handgun #000 Buckshot and fired. The first shot put all 4 pellets in a horizontal line across the red circle (yes, I stopped here and switched to another pistol as it could not get any better with the Judge). Impressive performance for buckshot out of a pistol at that distance. I haven't seen any .410 round perform anywhere near as good as these Federal rounds. I want to find some Fed PD #4 and see how well they perform.
