it is safer to use dummy bullets, snap caps! The use of those protects the firing mechanism from developing problems, in the firing pin area?
hi,just asking for your opinion about dry firing a weapon.i have a pt 24/7 g2 in 9mm,in the users manual,it says not recommended, but in the taurus website(taurususa.com),says dry firing is safe, only for models 94 and 940 which im not familiar with,i think its .22 cal is not safe for dry firing.which one is credible?or is it safer to use dummy bullets, snap caps?

Dry fire bad for .22, firing pin will hit the breech and incur damage from constant hammering, although the occasional dry fire won't cause harm, like losing count of the rounds fired and pulling the trigger again.
Just don't do it several hundred times.
On centerfire the cartridge is needed to stop the firing pin from extending too far into the open breech.
Depending on the design of the firing mechanism, it may or may not cause damage or failure.
Some designs incorporate a firing pin stop internally to protect the parts from damage.
Like Robby said, snap caps or dummy cartridges are best to practice.

In my Ruger Redhawk manual it states that dry firing will not damage the gun......
I still use snap caps, better safe than sorry.
Never going to buy another long barrel pistol? Ok, now it's four, just got a Ruger Super Redhawk in .357. If you think the standard version is heavy you want to try the long barrel version. Pics coming soon...
Snap caps are cheep insurance agansit any damage which might happen.
ty guys for this very informative replies.
The only time that I have ever dry fired is the one time that I ran out of ammo.
I strongly support gun control, how else are you going to hit anything?
