I did love the loading box on that Krag, that was a rather handy design. And the magazine lockout so you could hand load one at a time for distance shots was rather innovative back then. Great old guns were those Krags, i would love to have one of those in my collection.

Don't forget the venerable arisaka rifles. Though you will most likely have to reload to shoot them. Also the steyr manlichers have some of the best actions you can get on a military bolt. There are also canadian ross rifles that saw a little action during the great war, while they did not fare well in the trenches, mounties pu them to good use in the canadian wilderness.

Well impressed now. A RFD friend of mine just gave me a muzzle brake for nothing. I asked what rifle is it for and he said find out for yorself. Just did a little digging on another forum and its for a Nagant M44. Superb

My BIL gave me my Father in Law's Krag ( I always took it out of his gun cabinet and fingered it when he was alive) a couple of years ago. The action is smooth as butter, but I can see why they didn't last as military weapons. Loading one round at a time into a box mag is definitely more time consuming than a stripper clip. The one I have now was sporterized at some point and is an excellent hunting rifle. The 30/40 is like a 30/30 on steroids.

I would suggest picking up the Japanese battle rifles - the Arisaka Type 38 and the Ariska Type 99.
I'd love to see pictures of your collection when you feel like showing them.

Why am I getting the feeling that Hickok45 is lurking this thread? His latest video seems right up the OP's alley...
