Taurus revolvers used by South American police and military?

Does anyone know which countries in the world, particulary South America, used or still use Taurus revolvers and what models? I read something about Brazilian undercover cops using Taurus snubbie .38's, I would think the police would arm themselves with a locally produced revolver. I know the military at one point used PT92's.

I know they were produced exclusively for one of the Asian countries police forces but I'd have to Google it to figure out which one (can't remember off hand).

It is the Singapore police, they use 3" barrel Taurus® Model 85's w/Crimson Trace® Laser Grips.

That's it. Now I'll have to map search to see if Singapore is in Asia.

Why? They would be forever out gunned by the bad guys with 12+ rounds in their semi autos!

In Brazil, revolvers are not that common anymore, at least in LE. Taurus pistols of all models are widely used.

The Brazilian Army used to issue PT92s exclusively. Now it issues Imbel sidearms. There are still some PT92s around, though.

There's a chance that they are from a variety of units and all responded to a situation. Then again, it might be what they could get that was within budget and reliable...

Actually, there are two different police departments in the pictures. The military police portrayed in the third picture, is more conventional, their equipment is issued according to standards, etc.

The other pictures portray the civilian police ("polícia civil"). In this institution, there is no uniform, no pattern for vehicles, no standard equipment, no nothing. Firearms (and everything else) are usually personal, bought with their own money, and the state only provides the ammo. Check out the kindergarden backpacks.

Ironically, the civilian police is responsible for most of the riskier operations.

Both institutions (military police and civilian police) do not cooperate with each other, and there has been the occasional armed conflict between the two.

It is hard to tell, but mostly everyone in these pictures is packing PTs.

    Awesome! Thanks for the pics!

I love the guy with what appears to be two Sig-Sauer pistols, and also the guy with what looks like a PT92 in one hand and some kind of revolver in the other.........looks like a stainless M83? New model with underlug?
