Now if I can get the dang grip screw out that was stripped from the factory without damaging anything I can put my pearce rubber grip insert and my double diamond cocobolo grips on the gun. About the only thing I know to do is to drill out the screw but I dont even know if this will work or not.

It's been a year since I changed my PT 1911 grips and I forget what the frame looks like.  I just looked around the net briefly for a photo to see if the tapped hole for that screw/bushing goes through the entire frame.  I was thinking that if you got the grip off the opposite side you could work from there applying pressure as you turned the stripped screw.  If it worked to get it out, you could chase the threads and install the new grips.

I got it out today I drilled it out about halfway. Then I stuck a bigger drill bit in there and reversed it and the screw came right out. After I cleaned it today I put the double diamond cocobolo grips with pearce finger groove rubber inserts on it. I have a bunch of Wilson Combat parts and more coming and a set of novak three dot tritiums that I am going to have put on it. Once it is all tricked out I will post more pictures but for now here it is.

This is the first 1911 I have ever owned. Thus far it seems like a pain in the ass to reassemble after cleaning it but I probably am just doing it the hard way. Anyone, have any detailed instructions on how to reassemble it without it being so difficult. The thing I have the most trouble with is the recoil spring and the barrel bushing. Seems you got to push extremely hard to get the damned spring to go in so you can get the barrel bushing on.

Way to go getting that screw out without buggering the threads.  I really like that look and may have to dress mine up like that someday.  I have Pachmyer ALS grips now and think that the double diamond grips look much more distinctive.  I think that there is a sticky at the top of this thread that goes into field/detail strip and I just found this link which has a nice motion graphic showing the relationship of the fire control group.

There is no such thing as a drop in part for a 1911..If you want it to work the parts must be fitted...Beleave me im working on a para p10 and got (drop in parts) from para and finaly got fed up and gave it to one of the best gunsmiths in the country.Oh by the way he has nothing but good things to say about PT1911..So anyway becareful there are no such things as drop in parts..any way you void your warranty if you start changing parts on the gun...

The thing I have the most trouble with is the recoil spring and the barrel bushing. Seems you got to push extremely hard to get the damned spring to go in so you can get the barrel bushing on.

I use the 'handle' of the barrel bushing tool to push the recoil spring down and then just turn the barrel bushing by hand.
