New member, happy to be here.  I have been performing gun repairs/armory work for 20 plus years, but can't seem to locate (in the parts diagram) exactly which part (I assume located within the slide itself) does the decocking.  I would prefer not to go in blind.

Simply, the decocker is too sensitive for my taste.  I want to create the same safety as the prior variant (24/7 PRO) and 1911.
*What would I remove to eliminate the decocker part of the action?
*If done, would it still maintain the SA/DA ability?

Thx for the guidance...

Hang on and one of the more experienced gunsmiths will find your post.

I like the DS part of my 24/7 so I have not looked into disabling it.

Good luck Smiley

ok im pulling up the exploded view right now to get the part number for you. but ill start by saying that you can disable the decock feature and it will still function as sd/da. but the da will be second strike only. which is what it sounds like you want any way. you should be aware up front that this will in every way void your warranty. but ill show you how to do it.

the part you want to concentrate on is 4.22. that is the part that pushes on the sear when you push the safety up into decock position. if you field strip your pistol you can see this part on the left side of the frame, looking from rear to front. there is a similar part on the right side of the frame. this is the action from the trigger. its also slightly rounded instead of having a squared face. you want to file the face of this part that comes in contact with the safety switch. file it enough and it will no longer activate the decock. do not leave this part out in an attempt to just "remove the part that makes it work". it also acts as a shim. so file the face then put it back in. and although it looks like you could just file off the pin on the sear that connects it. i would not do that. it would be easy enough to order a new 4.22 link from taurus if you wanted to put it back to factory.

that being said. if you feel the decock is too sensitive then you can remedy that with out a disable. in between the safety switch and the frame there is a ball bearing that locks the safety switch up and down. it sounds to me like the safe on dimple isnt quite dimpled enough. you can simply remove the switch and increase the dimple size so the ball locks in to it better. just be careful when you disassemble the frame because odds are that yo will lose that ball. part number 4.25

heres the exploded i used

One last thing...
Am I reading the schematic right...in that the removal of part #s 5.2 (grip pins) will allow the removal of part # 4.1 (frame insert)?  The frame insert sort of locks into the back strap region of the polymer grip?!

Before you go messing with it, you also have the choice of just not using the decocker.  Also, I'm sure there might just be some plain 24/7 Pro's around that still need to be bought.  Bud's was having a sale on some.

Can anyone verify if what I stated below is correct?

I contacted Taurus about ordering the parts to make my none DS into a DS. They said it can be done, but wouldn't sell me the parts to do this (telephone). "Just go buy a DS model" was there exact words. Peved me a little. doing a little bit of machine work to do the desired mods is not a problem. I even offered to pay them to do the mods and ship it back to them. Nope won't do it.

Liability issue....as a manufacturer, I wouldn't change your firearm either.

All manufactures are trying to reduce the stupidity among us that shoot ourseleves, they are not interested in removing safety features.

Why not take JWC's advise, and just buy a regular 24/7 Pro ?  That gives you what you want, and you don't end up selling a gun to somebody eventually that has a voided warranty, and a decocker that doesn't work.

Sage advice.
