I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that the UCMJ would be a more swift and sure way to try this bastard and deliver the justice he so richly deserves.  I am also sure that this is also a crisis that can be expanded upon by our MSM and current administration t provide more "life lessons" (propaganda) for the masses.  This was a terrorist act in my opinion and should be punished surely and swiftly.

On the other hand wouldn't a military trial surely land him time in Leavenworth.  I can only imagine the justice he might find there, amongst his "peers."

Don't be. Most military are not armed with loaded weapons stateside. They would have to go to the armory for weapons and ammo. And that is almost never rapid.

When I left the Corps back in 1995 the MPs were still armed but they were talking about transitioning to civilian guards. Not sure how many did but I do know that even that far back some bases used civilians then.

I haven't had a chance to find out for sure but I suspect he'll be kept under UCMJ (Universal Code of Military Justice).  Even if someone tried to get him a high-powered legal defense team I doubt many of them are qualified to function under UCMJ.  Besides, I think he's more likely to be executed in the near future by the military.

I'm sorry. That was political.

Please ignore the previous post and just write it off to too much cheap wine on the weekend.

Actually, since my first post on this, I've given it more thought... especially in light of the report that the good Major is paralyzed.

I'm not really sure what would be the most severe punishment.

Sorry but Texas will not have jurisdiction. The sad thing is the military has not executed someone since the 60's.  This will be a show trial where the defense will pull out all the stops to show why he is not at fault because of our "illegal occupation" (not my views but the lawyers will jump on it) in Afghanistan and the stress he was under having to be expected to counsel soldiers killings members of his religion. The current form of execution for the military is lethal injection but he will probably die of old age with all the precautions and appeals. Having served at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth I can tell you that he will not be received well by the other inmates. His officer rank will separate him from the enlisted prisoners and his crime will probably put him in protective custody. The majority of Muslims in the USDB are the black Muslim types and he will not get much sympathy from them. I predict that he will become a martyr and a rallying point for copycats.
