Hey guys looking for some advice on holster I will be getting my 1911 with rails here soon and I'm wondering if I should go OWB or IWB.  I also have a Glock who will see IWB duty but am wondering if the 1911 will be as easy to conceal or if I should just go OWB with it.

Examples would be nice as well!

The 1911 is a pretty large pistol for CCW.  It's not impossible and some folks do carry it concealed.  For me the only way would be with a OWB holster with a thumb break strap.  If worn under a shirt with long tails or a jacket it conceals pretty well.  The holster below is my main carry holster for my 1911.  It rides fairly tight to my side.  Made by El Paso Saddlery, they do make one for a 1911 with rails.  The floral carving is an extra by the way.

I have a leather OWB holster, similar to BigSkiff's.  No way I would carry a 1911 IWB.  To many other options.  I do use what I have rarely, and it does conceal extremely well.  I just don't care for the weight.  That's just me though.

I use a Sourdough Pancake holster from Simply Rugged. It isn't embellished like BigSkiff's, but it gets the job done. Carries the pistol nice and tight against the side, and with the right belt is incredibly comfortable. I've been none to forget I'm even wearing a full size pistol.

Edit: I have carried my 1911 in a generic IWB before. With the right clothing it will conceal nicely, but it's a lot of weight in the pants.

Hehe, I see you're gearing up Keystoneman Smiley

I never tried to carry the 1911 concealed, but if I did I'd order the same holster I use for the PT145 and UL85...the SmartCarry.  Some people think they are uncomfortable, but I found it's the most comfortable deep conceal holster I've used.  Now, I have NOT tried the model that fits a full sized 1911, but the guy who makes these started making them for exactly that reason as he carries a 1911.

http://www.smartcarry.com/

I wear mine daily, usually 5-6 hours per day and on a good day I could forget it's there.  Might give it a shot, but like I said I haven't tried it with a full-sized pistol yet.

BigSkiff, that is one gorgeous holster!

I realized yesterday when I got home that my 1911 fits perfectly in my front pocket. I will make a pocket holster and see what it looks like. For now I have a crossbreed supertuck as well as a paddle holster.

i love my iwb blade-tech holster. I didnt think kydex would be that comfy but I have fallen asleep with it on. It also conceals nicely because it is very thin.

I really like my Tucker TX Heritage.

It wasn't so comfy at first, but after wearing it a bit, it's like it belongs there.  Smiley

TAURUS 1911 PADDLE HOLSTER

Its basically a fobus but made for the 1911 AR it took me a bit to find.

http://www.rrarms.com/catalog.php?prod=60062

Its a good holster but its not really a concealment holster even though i wear it as one.  for concealment i would rather have a IWB.

hope this helps
