Well, it came in the mail today. Very quickly, as I only waited a little over a week. Considering I waited for 90 days to get my Resident SC CWP, that was smokin' fast. Not much to it really, as it's just a paper license you sign, fold up, and stick behind your DL or resident CWP. I had two other copies that I had to sign and send back to Centre County sheriffs office. Anyways, done deal. 26 dollar, week and a half, couple color copies, and now i'm legal in a few more states. Pretty high speed if you ask me.

I was surprised there wasn't more to it though. I figured it would be laminated and DL sized, like my SC license is. Just a piece of paper, so no cool points showing it off.  Cheesy Gonna have to be careful with it too. I am around water a lot, and it wouldn't take much to ruin it.

Congrats!  There is an ancient thread here somewhere, where folks posted pictures of their permits, so we could all see what the different states looked like.

Like I mentioned, not much to it. Just a piece of paper. Note, that is not a copy of my actual permit.

The ones in Allegheny County (Pittsburgh Area) used to be paper also, they are now plastic cards like a Driver's License. You got the advantage of a lightning fast turn-around time though.

Center County!! WHOO-HOOO!!! That's where I live. They use the same "hotline" here for residents when you buy a handgun and apply for a permit. Took me 15 min to fill out the paperwork, write a check, background check, then out the door. Shockingly simple and almost too easy. And look at that, 5 years till it expires!!!

Centre county is known through out the ccw communtity as the fastest place to get your out of state ccw.  The Center county sherriff doesn't seem of concern himself with resident ccws, because according to the website they only tell you how to get non-resident ccws.  If I didn't know better, I would think this was a money making scam.  Issue ccws to non-residents, you never see them, and odds are they won't ever see Center county Pa.  http://www.co.centre.pa.us/sheriff/license_application.asp

Just got mine Sat.  About a week here too.  Same with the being careful with it.  I did not splurge on the color copies though.  Just used the copier at work B&W.

Also stinks that it is so big.  If it was CC size you could laminate it and not have to worry.  I just want to call the POC # to see what it is.  LMAO.

Since there is nothing on the reverse side of the permit, simply fold it in half and laminate it. It's a little taller than an credit card or DL, bit is still quite manageable. This procedure is recommended on the Sheriff's web site.

It helps us all who would like to be able to expand our carry zone, it is affordable and legal. Who cares if they make a $ or two.

You know, thats a rather disingenuous and, frankly a very rude, statement to make about a man who obviously cares very much about the rights of the citizens of this country. Personally, even with the little "if I didn't know better" disclaimer, I think you owe Sheriff Nau an apology.

Yea, at $23 for a five-year permit they are making a killing on all the poor suckers who apply for a PA non-res permit. I bet they clear all of $10 on each transaction.  Smiley

I would have paid double to gain the states I did, primarily Georgia and Pa. The law is the law, so if I need to get a license to carry in a state, and the residents don't, what ever. Doesn't bother me. I'm just glad that there is an opportunity for fellow CWP holders to extend their coverage, and I wanted to share that info with everyone. It may not help some, but others, like myself, it proved to be useful info. I was informed about the process by Doubletap, which I very much appreciate.

Personnally, I am grateful for the people in Centre County, PA for their quick turn around and great customer service. I called the Sheriff's department and spoke to a young lady that was very professional and informative. I also appreciate the great state of PA for being open to CWP holders of other states, and the ease of residents and non-residents alike in regards to obtaining a permit. It's not expensive, it's easy to apply for, and it's a readily availible resource to all applicable permit holders from other states. Besides, it's only a few bucks......Seriously, you want to see high way robbery, check the prices on a South Carolina Non-resident fishing license. Now that is expensive.  Grin It's good to be a resident of SC.  Wink

Sent out for mine on Thursday October 29th and got it back in my hands on Saturday November 7th.  The date on the card says it was issued on November 3rd.  Based on these dates, the Sheriff must have recieved my applicaton and issued the permit on the same day.  Wouldn't it be great if every bureaucracy worked that efficiently?
